Don't really understand exactly what it all means, but thanks for your assistance in this matter.

There currently are NO laws relating to Bounty Hunters in the State of Rhode Island. The HOUSE BILL that was referred to by another members relating to bounty hunter licensing was killed in the 2000 house session.
Mike, thank you for the update.
Could you post a state link to that effect. (If you have the time. It would be helpful).
Thanks again, and welcome to the board.
Sorry there is no link for this information. If you do a bill search at the RI Sectary of States Website ( http://www.state.ri.us ) there is no record found on these bills.
If you call the Secretary of States Office (401-222-2357) and give them the bill number they will tell you when it was killed in the House.
You can read the full text of the bill; I have a copy of it on my site at

First impressions can be lasting impressions.
1) The forum member who posted the earlier website links has been placed on hold.
2) The website links have been deleted.
3) The forum member does not have an IPIU Award Seal under his name and is presently a non-union member.
4) The comments he posted with the website are old, and it appears he has lost his commercial website which is now in the hands of an advertiser.
Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention,
Donna

Concerning bounty hunter laws in R.I. I am in the process of finding out any and all rules, regulations and laws concerning this issue in R.I. I will post when I have the full facts!
I am getting some work recovering bail skips here in NY. I am a licensed PI and allowed to perform the work of a bail enforcement agent under state law. I would like to know how to be upgraded so I may be able to access the bail sections of the forum
Does the state of RI allow Bail Recovery Agents / Bounty Hunters, or Surety Agents to operate and where can I locate infor on how to begin an operation?
I have it from several BEA's that tell me that RI just isn't the place to make a living doing that line of work. You are better off going to Ct and getting training and licensing there. Ct has a lot more work and you can even follow people to RI if you are working from a bondsman in Ct.
Good luck!!
I only have found one listing under BEA in RI. I know there is no legislature on the books in RI, but does that mean that their is no governing laws to mandate guidelines or that you cannot even operate.
The people who claim there is no work in the state are the ones who have given up. But the truth is that someone needs to be in the state doing that kind of work. The smart ones are going to be those that do a little this and a little that and a little something else. Don't worry, just dig in and set up your business.
