Amber Alerts (Free Lifetime PI Union Membership available)

    www.amberalert.com

Attention Private Investigators & Trainee Members,

If an "Amber Alert" is announced, go to: www.amberalert.com for all of the details on the missing child.

FREE LIFETIME PI UNION MEMBERSHIP & PI CREDENTIALS:
If an IPIU member finds a child that has an active Amber Alert placed on their behalf, that IPIU member will receive FREE LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP AND CREDENTIALS.

    • The AMBER Alert Plan provides law-enforcement agencies with a powerful tool to help recover abducted children and quickly apprehend the suspect. When an AMBER ALERT is activated, law-enforcement agencies immediately gain the assistance of thousands of community members who provide additional eyes and ears.

    • The AMBER Alert Portal is provided as a free public service. Through the AMBER Alert Portal, law enforcement may directly issue and update AMBER Alerts, which are then immediately sent to mobile phones, pagers, fax and email to anyone who signs up.

Save a child with AMBER ALERT
inline imageA parent's worst nightmare is a child abduction. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, 74 percent of children who were abducted and later found murdered were killed within three hours of being taken. Quick response is vital.

AMBER ALERT empowers law enforcement, the media and the public to combat abduction by sending out immediate, up-to-date information that aids in the child's safe recovery.

The AMBER ALERT Program has helped in successfully recovering over one hundred children since it was established statewide in California on July 31, 2002.

The AMBER ALERT Program originated in Texas in 1996 after 9-year-old Amber Hagerman was abducted and murdered. Texas organized a system that encouraged law enforcement agencies to alert the media following a confirmed child abduction.

California introduced the AMBER ALERT concept in 1999 as a regional program. In 2002 it was adopted statewide after legislation established procedures to assist law.

    AMBER ALERT Guidelines
    • AMBER ALERT may be activated only by law enforcement agencies.
    • AMBER ALERT is intended only for the most serious, time-critical child abduction cases.
    • AMBER ALERT is not intended for cases involving runaways or parental abduction, except in life-threatening situations.
Criteria for activating an AMBER ALERT:
Law enforcement agencies ensure these conditions are met before activating an AMBER ALERT:
    1. The investigating law enforcement agency confirms an abduction has occurred.
    2. The victim is 17 years of age or younger, or has a proven mental or physical disability.
    3. The victim is in imminent danger of serious injury or death.
    4. There is information available that, if provided to the public, could assist in the child's safe recovery.

Re: Amber Alerts (Free Lifetime Union Membership available)

Has anybody Run across an Amber alert via Cell phone for all states or individual states?
So far after visiting Amberalert website they only have 8 participating states for cell phone notification.
I would love to find sources similar for Indiana and the neighboring states here of course. Any insight?

I just signed up for free mobile Amber Alerts via Verizon Wireless. The text message does not cost you anything! It seems that the initiative is in all 50 states but your cellphone provider must be taking part.

Is the Wireless AMBER Alerts Initiative available in all 50 states?

Yes, the Wireless AMBER Alerts Initiative is available, through participating carriers, to wireless subscribers in all 50 states.

Eric and others click here to take you to the wireless amber alerts website.

I ended up just going through verizon which was where wirelessamberalerts took me anyway. There you can browse your available alerts and down at the bottom was the amberalerts.org link for free. Hit that icon and it allows you to punch in any zip code for your alert criteria. and then it allows you to set the time restrictions as well.

    Very nice Verizon thank you!

Thanks for the link! I signed up but my state is not a participating state.
I do have a Verizon cellphone but I have it through a different prepaid service.
I cannot figure out how to configure my phone, I think this is a very important link for everyone to have.

If there is a way to receive alerts via email, then you could receive an email at your cellphone, for example instead of entering your email address enter the SMS number for your cellphone, it may not get the whole message or it may come in multiple msgs, but you will get the bulk of the information.

    Greetings Fellow IPIU Members,

I am proud to say that I located (and returned to his family) a missing endanged juvenile Sunday evening after quite a hunt last week. The child had been missing for 15 days. There is nothing like seeing a mother hold and cry with her child, and to have a grandmother come up and say "thank you for finding my grandson".

Re: Amber Alerts (Free Lifetime PI Union Membership available)

There was an amber alert over this last summer, it was posted on digital highway signage all over the state. I didn't have my car at the time, and I was at a hotel. I had completely dismissed the idea of looking for the car or suspect, due to lack of mobility. I walked out of my hotel room and outside. I noticed a vehicle in the parking lot that appeared to match the description on the alert. I called the police for verification of the plate, and they told me to walk around to the other side of the building and talk to the police who had arrested the suspect moments earlier.
You see, you don't have to do anything spectacular. Just pay attention to the brodcast, and go about your life. If you happen to see what the description mentioned, call it in.
As for me, I like the hunt.
I'm known for getting out of bed and heading to the last known location of suspected vehicles.

Well here I go again posting to some really old threads, but they seem important so I wanted to add to the discussions.

Amber Alerts are now available for your actual desktop computer and also you can put them onto your websites. You simply go to their website copy then paste the code to where you wish to have the alert on your website.

There are separate alerts for Canada as well.

We must all do our parts to try and bring these kids back safely and there is nothing more rewarding than to know you have helped safe a child from disaster. Some people say they do not want to get involved, but stop and think if it was one of your kids or grand kids.
