CLOSED: NBC Television looking for Private Investigators

    UPDATE:
    10-6-2006

The previous post included a web site for NBC that is now dead.

However, Johnny posted a letter he received which includes a name and phone number.

If anyone has any CURRENT information on this, please POST it in this topic.

    Copy of letter:
    "Dear Private Investigators,

My name is Leah Warshawski, and I am working on a new television program called Private Investigators, which is being produced for NBC by Reveille Productions.

We have put together a team representing the nation's top private investigators who will take on the cases of people who need help but have hit a dead end, who don't know where else to turn, or who cannot afford to continue their search for justice. We will take on these cases pro bono.

We will be videotaping a 1-hour pilot for NBC in the weeks ahead and we are currently conducting a nationwide outreach for cases that our team of private investigators will take on pro bono. We are writing to you in the hope that you might be able to help us identify a case that is deserving of pro bono assistance. If you refer to us a case that we decide to investigate on-camera and actually use in the pilot, you will receive $1000.00 (One Thousand Dollars).

Specifically, we are looking for the following case types:

-Wrongful death involving questions of foul play
    -Suicides believed to be homicides
-Disappearance where foul play is suspected
-Fugitives from justice involving homicide, murder, and con artists
    -Parental Abductions (i.e. non-custodial abductions)

We are looking for cases in which an intensive investigative effort has a significant probability of helping to solve the case or, at least, to bring some form of resolution to it.

If you would like to refer a case to us, please email a brief description of the case to cases@ . . ..

Or call 1-800-652-0542 and ask for Leah. We will contact you if we have any additional questions.

Finally, if you could share this information with the members of your community, your professional associations, or your listservs, we would greatly appreciate it. If you have any questions or require additional information, please feel free to contact me at any time.

    Best Regards,

    Leah Warshawski

    Segment Producer
    Private Investigators
    cases@ . . .

Below is a copy of an earlier web posting about the TV show:

    ABOUT THE SHOW

Reveille Productions is currently conducting a nationwide search for the nation's finest private investigators for a new show on NBC.

Private Investigators is a documentary-style program that will feature private investigators that travel across the country each week to solve America's Cases.

Our P.I.s, the best in their field, will help Americans most in need: we will offer free investigative assistance to average people who do not have the awareness or ability to hire a private investigator. We will take on large and small cases.

WE WILL NOT RECREATE ANY CASES. In documentary style, we will follow our private investigators and watch their cases unfold in real time. We will tell the story through their eyes, words, and actions.

For many years, America's P.I.s have been misrepresented in the media. Private Investigators seeks to debunk the myths and show the reality of the day-to-day life of a private investigator on a case: the challenges, the intrigue, the intelligence-gathering, the persistence that is required, and on occasion, the frustration. In many cases, we hope, success; but sometimes there is failure, too. The result will be a first-hand look into the important role that private investigation plays in our society.

Folks, this is true. I spoke to them in Las Vegas. Good luck their show premise sounds interesting.

From what I can remember they are looking to put together several Teams of Investigators that will travel the USA helping real people in "need". Either Law Enforcement has archived it as a cold case, or they have a good case but can't afford to hire PI's of their own, or to exonerate peopl who have been wrongfully accused.

They will air these cases no matter what the outcome good or bad. You will have to fill out a brief application and do a "demo tape" to submit to them.

    Sounds very exciting

This sounds like a very exciting opportunity for any Private Investigator who is already licensed.

Good Luck to all who will pursue the opportunity!

Well I just finished everything today, I will mail it off tommorrow. I'm not licensed yet in California you need 3 years, unless you came from a law enforcement or military backround, so will see what happens. I will keep everyone informed......Bernie

I don't know if this is such a good idea. I find most of these types of reality shows degrading and somewhat suspect. With the editing and director cuts they could make you out to be a totally different person. If you get one of these spots...be careful it could backfire on you.

It seems to me a television show focusing on intern investigators under the supervision of an experienced investigator working on cold cases would be more entertaining and educational to those willing to accept such an assignment. Now that is Reality TV!

My application was nicely rejected saying at this time we have found all the investigators we need for the project, but we will keep you in mind for the future.
I'm curious if any one from IPIU who submitted there application was chosen.

This seems like an interesting idea.

The public in Australia would love this show but I feel it would only bring out the "cowboys" in our industry. I also think the TV network would prefer the "cowboy" instead of the investigator with integrity and honesty. This would put further bad light on out industry.
This is my opinion only and if anyone knows of a PI in this show that does have "good" PI qualities, then I opologise.

I thought it already was? Dang! If it is successful, it will either be shown on Aussie TV or Australia will commission their own version. It will be interesting to see which one.

    Hugh,
Right now the show is in Pre-Production....meaning they are casting and just starting to film. It will debut next year sometime on Regular television from what I understand. Check the NBC website just after the holidays as then they might have some new Info on it by then.
    Hope that helped.

    Happy Holidays

    NBC looking for PI's

Dorothy, thanks for the heads up. I just got my PI license in the great State of South Carolina, what a journey. It only took 2 months! I have applied with NBC and submitted my last case and all my information. I have been doing this for 8 years. It is very difficult to obtain a license in South Carolina, it is the same in North Carolina as well. Well good luck to all those who has applied and I hope we can team up and work some cases together. All those in SC please don't hesitate to call me at ,*******if you need any assistance with help in training. I would be glad to help all those who lack the experience. Michael J. Spane

NBC TV show looking for PI's

    Hello everyone,
Has anyone heard or seen anything about this TV show, yet?
I saw an interesting show on accident investigators on the DHLTH channel, but that is as close to this sort of thing I have found. I would love to see an accurate account of 'a day in the life' of a PI.
    Thanks ,
