Guideline and Quick Tips For Navigating The IPIU Forums
For AOL users:
Using an AOL web browser will cause problems.
If you use AOL to "connect to the internet", then once you are on the internet - click on the small blue e at the bottom left side of your screen to use Internet Explorer as a web browser.
Then once you have an Explorer web browser up, go to the top where the tool bar is and click on the HELP button of the browser. Under the HELP, click on the option titled About Internet Explorer.
Then read to see what version of the browser you have. If it says VERSION: 6.0 (or higher), then you have the latest web browser. If it is VERSION 5 or less, then go to http://www.microsoft.com/homepage/ms.htm to download a free upgrade.
- Once your browser issues are certain that they are working, then review our forum's FAQ: Click Here
- Then click on the following Newcomer's Topic and follow the instructions:

Remember to read the ANNOUNCEMENT at the top of each topic list that says Read This First.
Personal questions about your personal file information and progress are not discussed on these forums. Personal inquiries should be emailed here: Contact Us Link
But you are free to discuss "general questions", such as the normal time frame of processing that pertains to all of the members.
(And if you are a Newcomer to this web site, after you have read this topic - please click here for more great welcoming tips: Newcomers do this first! )
http://www.ipiu.org/forums/images/buttons/newthread.gifIs located in the upper and lower left hand corners, just inside each forum where you see all the topic titles.
Click on this button when you want to author a new subject in a selected forum.
Before you author a new thread, browse through each forum to view the various Topics already there. If you can not decide which forum to post your new topic, simply put it in the After Hours Lounge, which is where all of the off-topic and other chit-chat discussions are. A moderator will help you out.
*As you roam around all the forums, you will come across some forums that will ask you for your User Name and Password again. That probably means that the forum is private and you have not been cleared (yet) to enter it. Don't worry, just use the BACK arrow and return to select another forum to visit.
http://www.ipiu.org/forums/images/buttons/reply.gif Is located in the upper and lower left hand corners of each topic.
Click on this button when you want to reply to a specific thread. A thread is a topic or subject already started. Remember, this is a reply option.
http://www.ipiu.org/forums/images/buttons/quote.gif
You will find this button inside each post. Use this feature when you want to include part or all of that post in your response. You may edit out any part of the quoted material in your post.
This feature also allows you to see exactly what keystrokes were used to insert an icon, color or other enhancement used by the author.
Example: "David Copeland" posts a thread or reply, then 2 more members respond. Now you want to respond to something specific in David's post. Find David's post and click on the http://www.ipiu.org/forums/images/buttons/quote.gif button inside his post. You will get a message text box with David's "quote" inside showing exactly how he got certain text to be blue or the smilie was made. You may use this message box to make your reply.
After composing your reply or new thread, you may review your work by clicking on the preview reply button at the bottom. To make changes, scroll down to the text area. To submit, click on the submit reply button.
Other useful buttons.

Dawn,
When I was a newbie, there were a quarter-million fewer posts on the IPIU forums. Even then it was daunting.
Just take it slowly and you will do well.

Re: Guideline and Quick Tips For Navigating The IPIU Forums
I am new to this site and so far have found it to be very informative of what I can expect to learn from here and to know that I can receive helpful information on how to become a Private Investigator. I am excited to start a new career in the future and couldn't do it without the knowledge and expertise advice from other members who have been here for awhile and have worked their way up to the other access levels.
I am sure that as time goes on, I will learn a lot from here and can put it to great use once I start working on assignments from here.
