Wow thank you for the information here on this forum. My husband and I were thinking about moving to California, but I do not think so now! California is harsh on the PI and EP laws. I thought Florida was bad. Florida is a cake walk compared to Caif.

Thank you for letting us know Christine. The links for Illinois are now working properly.Originally Posted by Christine Maciejewski

Does Maryland require PI Trainees to have a license before they start or can they go from certified PI to licensed during the trainee process.
Thanks for all that info Darin. That was a great help to me as I'm sure it will be to everyone else.
Here is another link which includes contact information for all States:
State Licensing Requirements For Private Investigators
Hope this helps too! "DJ"

The site looks great, but not a single link works from my office computer. Most pages come up "Page Not Found", the others all have errors of some kind.

Michael, and Others...
Sorry about the link, it doesn't seem to be working,
I had several browsers open ... and maybe this link will better serve some of our members.
All States Private Investigation Licenses
I did check some of the links, to be sure they were working, however, I did not check them all, for all states.
Most were working, or some of the links for each state.
Hope this helps some.. "DJ"
DJ,
I only checked New Jersey, but the State Poice link does not work. The State PI Association link works - I have what I need.
I will find a good link for the NJSP and send it to the site.
Michael

Note that not all the links are still valid. Websites come and go. See my post at the top of this page about New Jersey.
However, the loss of a link does not negate the tremendous effort that went into the list. You might make a point of helping to update the list - good practice.
What are the requirements for get a licence in Maryland and DC
Thanks for this info Darin. I was just looking for this when I did a search. This is greatly appreciated.

Darin Biddle,
Bravo. Your time, effort and attention to detail should reward you in your career. If only all answers could be provided as clear and thorough as yours. I know it has been a long time since you wrote this, but it still applies. Thanks.
I am willing to act as a "resident manager" or absentee owner for someone who would to run their own business preferably in Massachusetts (perhaps elsewhere). This would be for an individual with some education or experience as well as a clean background. This would come with a fee slightly less than what some of the national franchises charge. Inquire for further details
