This is great information. I'm less than an hours driving time of five counties.

    ANSWER:

[i]Private Investigator Trainees are placed within
a 45 minute drive-time from their nearest county
    courthouse.

The county records of your courthouse is the center
of all civil and criminal records for your area,
and at times a pre-investigation for the agency client
may require you to pull record copies.
    David,

Thanks for the information on here! I was wondering what kinda of range I was looking at. Where I live, I can get to maybe 4 county courthouses within 45 min and if I added another 15-20, could probably reach several more. I'll pass that information on to IPIU!

    Thanks,
    Bob

I am anxious to get started. Hopefully there is plenty of cases to be worked in my surrounding counties.

    ANSWER:

Private Investigator Trainees are placed within
a 45 minute drive-time from their nearest county
    courthouse.

The county records of your courthouse is the center
of all civil and criminal records for your area,
and at times a pre-investigation for the agency client
may require you to pull record copies.

In general, you are not required to travel further
than a 45 minute drive. If an assignment requires
any unreasonable travel, then auto expenses can be
    added to your earnings.

If there is an assignment which exceeds the 45
minute drive time, you have the option of turning
    down that particular assignment.

Sometimes a nearby private investigator in a neighboring
county is unavailable. Your agency may contact you
to see if you are willing to take on the assignment.
If so, consider how many hours the assignment will
total, times your hourly rate. And then determine
if your net earnings after travel and dead-time is
worth the assignment. Many agency managers will offer
extra pay to offset dead-time and expenses.

Hopefully this will answer some questions to new
    private investigator members of IPIU.

    David,

In response to the the quoted message, thank you for this info. I have recently inquired about potential work as a trainee and how it works. This answers some of my questions; however I've asked via email and forums about the "requirements" of taking on out of state work, but have not received an answer as of yet. I was told by agent relations that out of state work is always avail. now if you can't find something in your area. Would travel then be a requirement for those types of jobs? Are there currently investigative jobs for trainees that could be completed solely by internet and phone (please forgive, I am just a newby)? That would open up my case market, but I've yet to see specifics on any such job. My current home areas should give me a decent chance for cases I would think? Would love to hear from a trainee in the last year that has knocked off a couple cases and is now in the system and how it's been going. I've read testimonials, but nothing specific (yet) on how many hours people are working, how fast it took to get work that paid and how much commuting they are doing. Would love to see such a testimonial. Thanks.
    it?

I'm in a large metropolitan area in Minnesota. I can get to a bunch of county courthouses in 45 min to an hour. What agencies typically work in Minnesota?

Please feel free to use private email for a reply, if you need to.

Christine, just thought I would let you know, I used to live in Randolph, I moved to Henry County about a year ago. This is also good because I can pull from Henry and Delaware counties. Good to have a fellow Hoosier here.

    Hello Victoria

I'm not certain when you actually requested your packet, but the question you are asking would best be asked in your introduction, located by clicking here > Victoria's Introduction.

This thread you've asked your question in is on a different subject.

Thank you for your understanding and your cooperation.
