One very difficult thing to master in life is Self. From the days of old we have this admonition: 'Man, know thyself'. For when you know yourself, you know the gods! When you know yourself, there is harmony and coherence in your life, your music rings out loud and clear, like a symphony.
The language of self is learned by listening to yourself!

I certainly agree. But on the lighter side, I recall Jack Nicholson telling a young lawyer (Tom Cruise) . . . "You can't handle the truth!"

So maybe the moral of the quote, along with yours, is to become a good person first and then ask for more truth. Otherwise, a not-so-good person may not want to know themselves to then meet god.
