    California Concealed Gun Law

The laws in regard for a private investigator to carry a loaded handgun concealed are as follows:

    1. A firearms permit must be obtained from the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services. This will allow you to openly carry a firearm, not a concealed one, but this is part of the process for the next step.

    2. Any Chief of Police or Sheriff may issue a concealed weapons permit for good cause. For a P.I. the BSIS certificate is required as well. You have to qualify once every six months with the calibers listed on your gun card to maintain your license. You must live in the City or County of the Sheriff or Chief of Police who issues your CCW.

    3. A thorough Background Investigation is done by the State Attorney General's (DOJ) Automated Firearms Unit, NCIC (FBI) and police local database. Once you've cleared this and answered the 19 questions on the application form, Livescan you fingerprints and have no Mental Health Records, you'll be approved in about 6 - 8 weeks depending on the backload of applications. Just having a CCW is not enough to get by the private investigator's licensing bureau. The BSIS requires you to get their permit as well, (think of it as double taxation).

    Re: California Concealed Gun Law

Is this information still current as of today

If not, where can I find this information?

Also, does this only apply to a "licensed" Private Investigator?
