Policy for Tattoo Database in conversation..

Jail officials are considering creating a database of inmate tattoos that could be used to help investigators who are searching for unidentified suspects in area crimes. As of the current time, they are working with attorneys to set policy. Police do not expect that tattoo descriptions given to them by victims of a crime or by a witness will always match perfectly to the images of actual tattoos contained in a database. But having such a database would at least give investigators a step up when looking for an unidentified suspect.

Yes, I can see it working at least to some extent. I remember recently reading about the FBI to add tattoo art to its Biometric Center of Excellence which creates and improves data such as fingerprints, DNA and irises. Regarding gangs, it may seem to be slightly frustrating for investigation given that most of their symbols are widely used by the members. Nevertheless, anything to help cross-reference or eliminate aspects of investigation process should be a plus..
