This I found to be quite interesting. Source posted at the end of post.

SECURITY GUARDS: Indiana has licensed private investigators and security guards for 50 years – licenses the report says are unneeded.

“Individual consumers rarely, if ever, have a need to hire a private investigator or security guard … national credentials provide a sufficient regulatory program.”

Notably, the report examined seven boards that regulate professions and recommended keeping three: those overseeing optometrists, professional engineers and health facilities. The panel will issue more reports as it evaluates 35 state agencies that regulate professions.

Undoubtedly, licensing and regulations exist because someone at sometime experienced a problem with one of the professionals. Licensing and regulation are designed to weed out unqualified professionals, and it is reasonable to conclude that removing a layer of licensing could allow more unqualified workers to practice trades. But the report raises good points about the cost and value of the licensing and regulation.
