Careers in British Intelligence - Hiring Now

Britain's most secretive intelligence agency, know as GCHQ, is hiring.

In addition, they are even offering a unique method to prove your intelligence skills - BY BREAKING A CODE!

    The UK Intelligence Agencies
GCHQ is one of the three UK Intelligence Agencies and a part of the UK's National Intelligence Machinery. GCHQ works in partnership with the Security Service (also known as MI5) and the Secret Intelligence Service (also known as MI6) to protect the UK's national security interests.

The Agencies act within the law. All their operations are conducted within a framework of legislation that defines their roles and activities. In summary, their operations must relate to national security, the prevention or detection of serious crime, or the UK's economic well-being.

Much greater detail on the UK's National Intelligence Machinery, the roles of the Agencies, legislation, accountability and funding can be found at the Intelligence and Security Committee (ISC). See also the MI5 and MI6 websites.

    About GCHQ
GCHQ's headquarters are in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. We have two much smaller sites in Cornwall and Yorkshire but most of the c5500 staff work at the impressive state of the art building at Benhall in Cheltenham. The building, often referred to locally as the Doughnut, is a dramatic landmark at the entrance to the spa town of Cheltenham.

    BREAK THE CODE:
GCHQ targets code breakers to support national cyber security

Against the backdrop of the UK’s new Cyber Security Strategy, which was published 25 November 2011, GCHQ is working with resourcing specialist TMP Worldwide to communicate with the appropriately skilled people in the communities in which they spend their time.

Traditionally, cyber specialists enter the organisation as graduates. However, with the threats to information and computer technology constantly evolving, it is essential that GCHQ allows candidates who may be self taught, but have a keen interest in code breaking and ethical hacking, to enter the recruitment route too.

With its recruitment partners TMP Worldwide, GCHQ has launched an innovative online recruitment campaign. The campaign seeds a message into social media channels, including blogs and forums, to attract people to crack a visual code at www.canyoucrackit.co.uk. They can advocate taking part in the challenge in their online communities. The challenge is anonymous, GCHQ is not named as the source of the challenge, in order that applying for a career in the department is not the primary reason for the participant to engage.

The desired result of the campaign is to reach those people with the right skills and mindset, and to encourage them to find out more about a career with GCHQ. Cracking the code is not an assessment, rather a way to connect potential applicants with GCHQ as an employer. There is a level of difficulty to crack the code, but once the code is cracked, wide dissemination of the solution is anticipated in online communities. The discussion this promotes should raise additional interest in GCHQ as an employer and generate future recruitment enquiries.

Anyone applying who has hacked illegally will not be eligible to continue in the recruitment process.

    Now that is incredibly interesting,

Heh, didn't think they'd be putting something like that out on this site. What prompted this one?

    Yeah it really is,

Surprising that it would be posted here though, I don't see too many Brits posting here. Honestly this is a good opportunity if you can do those things, but you do need to be a British citizen.

Surprised this thread is still going,
Just checked though, it appears that job has been filled. I didn't expect to see something like this, here in these forums.

    Heh,

Well I appreciate the thought Judy, and those are definitely intriguing opportunities, but I'm not a UK citizen so not eligible regardless. I just don't see too many Brits here so did not expect a recruitment by MI-5/6 and GCHQ here.

I do appreciate it though, and if I were a UK citizen I would definitely check them out.
