Federal Bills that have been introduced that will effect all of us in the investigative industry.

This came to me this morning through my networking on LinkedIn, through one of the groups to which I belong. I felt it was worthy of being posted here for all to reflect upon.

    quote
"Equal Employment for All Act" by Representative Steve
    Cohen (D-TN), in H.R. 321
to ban employer access to credit reports

On-Line Privacy Bill, "Best Practices" by
Representative Bobby Rush (D-IL) in HR 611
, which would require consent from consumers about some data that is collected on them.

"Stalkers Act of 2011" by Loretta Sanchez (D-CA), to
prohibit against "emotional distress" caused by surveillance.

    4. Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA) introduced two privacy bills,
    H.R. 654, the
"Do Not Track Me Online Act" that would allow consumers the option to opt out of online activity tracking. She also introduced H.R. 653, the "Financial Information Privacy Act" which limits the ability of financial institutions to share customer data.

    5. "Cyber Security and American Cyber Competiveness Act"
by Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) in SB21
, which would require Congress to enact legislation to protect against identity theft, data breaches and the protection of on-line privacy
Could this actually affect our business & the way we do things?

Absolutely. I haven't read the whole bills, but if the captions applied to the names of the bills are accurate, this would definitely affect our field.

Personally, I think one of the bills will pass, whole the others will either be dropped, voted out or will need some revision to make it through.

Seems to all Democrats. Republicans control House, and will take Senate soon.

Sometimes the old fashion way is the best way. Dont forget how the Private Investigators did their job in those days. is good to have a Library card handy.
