    Oklahoma Gun Laws

Self Defense Act/Concealed Weapon License Procedures

It is the responsibility of the applicant to read and become knowledgeable of the provisions of the Oklahoma Self-Defense Act. In addition to the basic eligibility requirements, the law includes a number of conditions that affect an applicant’s right to have a handgun license. These conditions are listed under Sections 1290.10 (Mandatory Preclusions) and 1290.11 (Other Preclusions) of the Oklahoma Self-Defense Act and the Federal Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act.

    Eligibility Requirements
Sections 1290.10 (Mandatory Preclusions) and 1290.11 (Other Preclusions)
Federal Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR ALL APPLICANTS TO REVIEW ALL OF THE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS AND PRECLUSIONS IN THE LAW BEFORE SUBMITTING A CONCEALED WEAPON LICENSE APPLICATION. IF IT IS DETERMINED DURING PROCESSING THAT AN APPLICANT HAS NOT MET ALL OF THE REQUIREMENTS OR IF ANY OF THE PRECLUSIONS ARE FOUND TO PERTAIN TO THE APPLICANT, THE APPLICATION WILL BE DENIED AND THE PROCESSING FEE WILL NOT BE REFUNDED.

Please note that license holders that submit a request for replacement of their license will have the same expiration date as the previous license. If a license holder needs a new license and the current license will expire within the next 90 days, they will need to submit the SDA application, updated photos and appropriate fees to the OSBI.

That covers anyone wanting a concealed carry license, PI or not. Is there anything on a PI, bail bondsman, or Bail Enforcement Agent carrying openly?

    Matt,

You would have to consult your local licensing office about PI's and BEA's carrying concealled. Some states restrict professional carrying to specific types of fire arms such as .45's or .357's.

Being a PI or BEA often times makes getting a CCWP easier as long as you meet the licensing criteria.

Fraternal members recieve more in-depth assistance in obtaining information and licensing. More often then not, if you're searching for answers by yourself, it will be a long road to getting the answers you need. Proper interpretation of the law is a crutial part of working in this field. After all, ignorance of the law is not an acceptable defence in the eyes of most justices when on trial.

I can say first hand, the IPIU does a lot to ensure we're all informed and educated in operating legally.
