    Re: Requirements: Private Investigator Trainees

I went out on a Nov. 18 assignment. I enjoyed every minute of it. It was exciting.

My manager kept in touch by e-mail and telephone. I was able to contact her any time and she offered advice to improve the work. I am completely pleased with the program.

    Thank you for the opportunity

Harold, when you become a union member of the International Private Investigators Union, you will have access to the Level 3 areas where all of the free sites are reviewed by others to save you potentially wasted time searching the internet.

Pamela, congratulations! It's also good to earn some extra money too!

PS: It is very encouraging to hear of how smoothly things went and that help was only moments away, preparation must be a key factor prior to starting any assignment which clearly shows in this case, good work.

Have a great day and a safe holiday.

    Re: My first training assignment

I received two referral letters in the mail with my test results. I was offered a training assignment the next day after I responded to the letters. I had another assignment two and a half weeks later. The time between, I spent reading everything in the forum for completing the assignment properly. Good luck to you and best wishes.

Thanks Pamela! You really got fast results. Hopefully, after I pass my test I will too. Just sent in my test. I've been trying to read everything also...there's a lot of useful info in the forums.

Take care and the best to you also.

    Hi Pamela,

On the scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate the difficulty of your first assignment? And how would you rate it in relation to your work experience? I hope you don't mind me asking these questions. Thanks.

    Re: My first training assignment

Congratulations Pamela. I can't wait to get my first assignment. I am still waiting for my test results and credentials. Time is just dragging by for me. I wonder how long it takes to get the results if I submitted them on a Saturday? Somewhere I saw on here that tests are graded on Wednesdays. I also saw that somebody received their results on a Tuesday.

    Re: My first training assignment

Well I completed my first assignment last night, and as I said in another post(which I think might be in the wrong forum)I learned a lot because I didnt visit enough establishments.Planning and execution of that plan is a key to success, I may have stayed at the places to long for each visit. Of course with all the Mt Dew I drank I was wound up like a kid on a sugar high. The next event is already being planned and I plan on seeing at least 20-25 places plus I am going to the next bigger city.

Very encouraging to read all the great comments on first assignments and continued assignments! There is hope where dedication starts and at the end it looks like we will get possibly more work than we can handle and more education on the way.

I am expecting to start my first assignment very soon. What I am thinking about are the future assignments as well. What happen after the first, second and third year? Are you still working on assignments and is it still fun and profitible???
Are you finding it easier to complete your assignments?

    Charles,

It's hard to say what someone will like after a year or so. Currently I work as a Loss Prevention Manager while building up my companies. I really love my loss prevention role, but dislike the downtime because because my other duties have nothing to do with this field.

I have worked some fugitive recovery cases and love the skip tracing work. I've even gone head to head against some bounty hunter, which ironically is what got me started in the field. lol

So I suppose the level of satisfaction you experience in your work depends on how much you enjoy it or dislike it. If you're starting with Integrity Investigation Cases (mystery shopping) and dislike it, I would recommend pushing through your lack of desire for at least a little bit. It can be a pain at times, working out your daily schedule with 10-20 separate assignments per day, but the money and experience are well worth it.

What do Integrity Investigation Cases tell a future employer?
    • You have done undercover work
    • You have done photographic surveillance work
    • You are experienced in completing detailed investigative reports
    • And more...

If you are starting with Anti-Piracy assignments, the pay is so good, I couldn't imagine anyone wanting to stop. Also, in these types of assignments, you're building a case which is always expected to be used in court. Certification should be sought when working these assignments before considering ending your participation.

The proof you've worked cases meant for court would be an amazing addition to a new investigator's resume.

In closing, no matter what you choose, you'll get better at it the more you do it. If you make mistakes it's okay. we all make mistakes, no matter how experienced we might be. Learning this field requires some changes in our natural attitude and personal modus operandi. This can get frustrating at times and even hard, but this is how we learn new things.

I get frustrated often. However, I have learned the frustration is actually me changing. Personal change is never easy. This frustration is also considered "being out of your comfort zone".

All I can say is keep going, you'll do great!

Hello all. I have not been on the site for some time. I still get the magazine and all. It is really good to see that IPIU is still up and running. It really is a good site for PI's in general but especially for newbies. So you all take advantage of the experience and knowledge here and grow your businesses and dreams. Have been concentrating on my education and taking care of my grandson while my son is deployed. About ready to jump back in with both feet.

    Anthonio,

A lot has changed since you've been gone. There is way more available to established agencies to help in growth and enhancement. The IPIU has turned itself into a one stop shop for anything a new or seasoned investigator might need. Let us know if we can be of assistance.
