No, really. . .depends on if you like to read or watch video (visual tools) or hear in a CD (if u like to learn by Audio). . Do u workout?? I would suggest listening to education instead of music.

Do you listen to tape to learn Mexican.

No, i personally didn't.
I took Spanish in school from the 6th grade-10th grade. I thought it was a chore back then, but now i find the language helpful to know. I think if i was going for a Refresher, i would choose a tape. .i commute to work and that would be perfect for my time.
I have listened to books on tape for my 45min one-way commute.

Some recommendations and advice on learning languages.
First, children learn a languagae because it is essential to survive. As adults our learning a language is a matter of interest and the level of retention is not as high as the level of someone who needs it to survive. Which explains why foreigners living abroad learn a language quicker without any formal study.

In regards to Spanish, it is my second language and keep in mind there are many variations. Some individuals will use a Mexican or European version of Spanish. Both are good, but there are differences in dialect. In Mexican Spanish there will be some traces of Aztec words. In the Islands of Cuba, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico you will find traces African and even Arabic words (Words that start with "AL"). Basically depending on what type of Spanish you want to learn will determine whether you will be understood clearly by other Spanish speakers.

Please dont forget to learn multi-cultural communication when learning a language as well. Meaning, be aware of how other cultures communicate both verbally and physically. For example, a thumbs up may be okay in the United States but in the Middle East it is a very offensive gesture. In the United States is proper to look into someone eyes when speaking, but in Asian countries, it is disrespectful. All in all you will be well recieved for the efforts.

My recommendations:
Columbian Spanish is commonly known to have the most appealing dialect, it is clear, and pleasant to listen to as well as understoood by all.

If your learning Arabic, the Lebanease Dialect is also known as the clearest and best sounding dialect.

Peter , that's great advice ! I have a friend who is from Puerto Rico and she did let me in on this . She is working with me on my Spanish . She is also trying to teach me 4 other languages . Which I can say , Spanish is the easiest !

Well I commend you for wanting to learn another language. If you ever need some assistance with your Puerto Rican Spanish you can always ask me, since that is my background. I have heard that Spanish is the easiest and when you learn Spanish, other languages will be easier to learn. Just some FYI...I heard that Chinese was the hardest language to learn, but amazingly, it Hungarian is the hardest language to learn...aint that something?

To be honest I don't ever think I could ever learn Chinese or Hungarian...my cousin was knows Chinese ...and I tried to learn ..just don't have the patients for Chinese . Love Spanish though...

Wow, while I don't deal with that many foreign languages in general, I do however live 10 minutes from 4 Universities.
1 of these is Ivy rated and 1 other is on of the largest Technological institutions in the US (and literally in my back yard), with government contracts for R&D in everything from NASA to ?? The number of foreign entities here is overwhelming.
This may be a benefit, in hidden ways.
