    Illinois CCW Question

    Hello everyone,

Could someone explain the correct procedures for obtaining the Illinois ccw? what forms do I need and so forth?

I did a google search and only found that Illinois does not offer a concealed weapons permit to non-law enforcement types. If this is true then how does PI's carry in Illinois?

I currently have my PERC renewal underway and have my FOID card.

Thanks in advance for any help in this matter.

IF[I][U] what you say is correct - you don't ...

However, you really shouldn't need a weapon as a Private Investigator.

    Cheers

ok to my knowledge there is on ccw in illinois. You must be working for a license pi agency and the agency must send for you fac card. If you are working as a body guard is the only time your fire arms maby conceled and if your are working as security then it must be visable and you must have your foid card with your fac card at all times. also you must have a letter from your agency and a number where the police officer may verify your employment and or if you are on an active case.

But really why would you need a gun unless it's a private security situation?

I think the "need" would be based on several factors. For example, if you're conducting surveillance in a very bad part of town you might feel safer with one.

On the other hand, if that surveillance is in a quiet neighborhood, where you can hear the silence, you might feel a bit silly carrying.

Carrying a weapon is really a personal choice, and a very big responsibility.

    Just my own humble opinion.

You will also have to have at least the 40 hour firearms course, the same one that police officers take, and then you will have to renew with an instructor every year.

best place to go is handgunlaw.us There will be information on what needs to be done. Basically, from what I understand only politically connected people of those covered under HR 18 can do that.
