Wow! That led me to alot of information - links to other links. It appears there are very few PIs in my town - that's fabulous, from my perspective.

I know there is a need for them here, so lawyers etc. are probably paying big bucks plus mileage for investigators from other towns to work here.

Guess I better hurry up and be ready to fill the need. Thanks for the link!

Felix, you can check out your particular state at the website Sherri so kindly posted above:

    http://www.crimetime.com/licensing.htm

Hope it's helpful - I know it answered my licensing questions.

You'll find that for most any question you think of, somebody has probably asked and answered it already here in the forums. It just requires a bit of digging which is, after all, what alot of PI-ing is all about. It's good practice for us.

    Good luck!

You betcha! That's what we're here for, to be helpful if/when we can.

It took me awhile to realize it, but I'm always amazed that whenever I have a question I can almost always find it answered somewhere on the forums. If I don't find an answer, I just post my question and somebody else has an answer.

Nice organization to belong to, IMHO! Hope everyone's having a fabulous day.

    Red face Thanx ! :)

    Wonderful reference Sherri !

I have saved my states info ....but the link you've provided is very useful when one needs to check on neighboring states laws.

We never know when we'll be required to do some traveling in our investigation.

Now that was what I have been looking for since I started this tour. It told me what I needed to know about the State of Washington. Are we going to get help to pass the test?

Thank you, Sherri, for the website. I like the link "Black Book Online" listed at the bottom of the page. Although we as Private Investigators need to get the most reliabel information from the most reliable sources the public information listed in this link "crawls" to other free links that seem to be up to date. Another reason why the IPIU forums are a great place to learn about this industry.

Sorry, I didn't luck out 2 out of the 3 sites were not longer available and 1 was a secure sight that would not let me in!

That's ok I called info in NY and they are sending me the info from the State of the State admin. If anyone is from NYC all you have to do is call 311 and ask about lic. laws and they will connect you to the right people. Through snail mail unfortunately.

    Thanks for the website.

Unfortunately some of the links within them are down.
I will try again later on I am sure they are just updating.
That site is great overall to include the #'s.
    Awsome.
    Thank you.

Wow, that was a great website. It was enlightening to find that transcriptionists are also needed. I work for an insurance company and I transcribe statements that are taken by investigative units from people that may be committing fraud. That could be an interesting field for me to pursue. Thanks for offering this website to us.

I received my info next day from the City. I was very surprised.
Thanks for all the inspiration to do the right thing the right way.
I went on an interview this morning for a company that does what I am interested in. I found out that in NY you only need to work for a company for 3 years and show proof that you have been doing the work, by a letter from them stating that you worked there. Then you can take the test to be lic.
They had me meet with the HR person, the Director of HR then the VP of the Co. not bad for walking in cold.
If it wasn't for IPIU I would have never made a good impression. God bless each of you for putting yourselves out there to help. I have a good feeling they may call me back for a second interview. If they do, I am one step closer to getting my lic.

Thank you for the information on the Requirements for each state. I went to my state and found out that I need to work for someone as a PI under a licensed PI for at least 3 years. Good information!

    Hi Danny,

That is the same requirement for New York. Nice to know that even though we are in different states we still have things in common.
    Good luck.

I found this information in the Legal Forums under license for PI's. I was totally out in space and did not know the requirements for a PI. I guess I will be doing a lot of work through IPIU for a while anyway. I am hoping that a list of employers come with my test results here soon. I need to go back to work. Thanks for your response. and Good Luck to you also.

    Carmen Yeargain,
I cannot tell you the answer to that question, but what you need to do is go to the Forum and look up your state requirements. I will give guidelines on what you need to get a license and the time frame you have to work for a licensed PI to get your license. In my state, it takes 3 years under a licensed PI. Good luck I hope that this information helps you.

hi,is anyone from Oklahoma here? If so did you take the State test for Private Investigators? How was it? Has anyone from Oklahoma taken the cleet tests?

    Thanks

    Good help

Helps to know other states regulations in case I ever end up working in them. I know for Missouri, Title 17 covers regulations for Kansas City and St. Louis if anyone needs to know. Otherwise just check with local PD. Thanks for the other links though. Take it easy all.

    Helen,

Just go to the Main Forum page and click on LICENSING LAWS. Then click on BADGE LAWS, and read your state topic.
