Alabama gives wide latitude to bondsmen to arrest their principals. (Code of Alabama 15-13-62)

The bondsman can authorize another to apprehend the fugitive by endorsing a certified copy of the undertaking (15-13-117).

The bondsman or his agent can pursue the principal anywhere in the state, must possess a certified copy of the bond, must clearly identify himself and his purpose, and can enter a dwelling for this purpose.

The principal has to be surrendered to the sheriff of the county of jurisdiction. (15-13-63).

An out of state bondsman shall have a certified copy of the undertaking when apprehending the principal (15-13-124). UCEA

    Questions about Alabama law

Hi there! I am new at this, and this is the first thing I have seen about Alabama. I have a few questions hopefully can be answered. How would I go about becoming a PI in Alabama? What are the requirements? This may be a really dumb and nieve question but once I get my license is there a way to work for the US government as a PI? And my last question is: Is the new home land security going to hire PI's to do investigative work in each state to watch for terrorist? If no one knows does anyone have an idea of who could answer these questions.
Im sorry for the ignorance, and all of the questions but I have learned asking is the best way to recieve knowledge and its free!

    Thanks

Thumbs up BOUNTY HUNTING IN ALABAMA....

    JAMIE,
JUST THOUGHT THIS MAY BE OF SOME USE TO YOU. I BEGAN WORKING FOR A BONDING COMPANY THAT MY UNCLE OWNED IN 2001. THE ONLY THING THAT I KNOW HE DID WAS HAD ME ADDED ON AT THE COUNTY COURT HOUSE AS ONE OF HIS BONDSMEN. THEN HE PAID A STATE FEE FOR ME TO GET MY CREDINTIALS AS A FUGETIVE RECOVERY AGENT IN THE STATE OF ALABAMA. BUT OF COURSE I HAD TO HAVE PLENTY OF ON THE JOB TRAINING ALONG SIDE OF HIM AND THE OTHER AGENTS. AS A MATTER OF FACT I USED TO WONDER HOW ONE OF THE AGENTS WAS ABLE TO OBTAIN ANY KIND OF CREDINTIALS IN THIS STATE DUE TO THE FACT HE WAS AN X-FELON. HOPE THIS HELPS!

    Re: Alabama Pi license

The last time I checked, you had to pay $150 for a business license. I don't know if that includes anything else. Also, if you were to operate a collection agency, they charge an additional $150. (I am in Georgia about 15 miles from Alabama and was thinking about including Northeast Alabama in my group of counties that I'll be able to work. However, I don't have an office in Alabama, nor a phone there so they say I don't need a license to operate there. I have to notify the sheriff in the county I would go to and he will assist me....BUT, only if I am licensed in my home state...which I am not at this time. Lots of red tape for me.
    Hope this helps.

    Re: ALABAMA: Discuss Here

    From Internet Resource:
Bounty Hunters are known as “Professional Bondsmen” in Alabama and enjoy a relative amount of freedom. But this is not to say that Bounty Hunters have free reign to recovery fugitives in Alabama. Rather, professional bondsmen must meet a succinct set of requirements before being licensed by the Department of Insurance.

How to Become a Bounty Hunter in Alabama

To become a Bounty Hunter in Alabama one must be operating under a state business license, usually as a private investigator. This is fairly easy to obtain. However, it is recommended that you become familiar with safe practices before becoming a Bounty Hunter or a private investigator. The Alabama Professional Investigator Association is dedicated to promoting safe and efficient practices and can offer more information on training and employment opportunities in the state.

Bounty Hunter Licensing and Requirements in Alabama

To be licensed as a professional bondsman in Alabama you must be a resident of the state, have enough capital to cover the bonds you are pursuing, ensure that no one else has any interest in the bonding business, not be convicted of a felony, or be an attorney, judicial official, or otherwise hold an interest in anyone authorized to accept an appearance bond.

Otherwise, it is only necessary to obtain a business license from the Alabama Department of Revenue. This license is usually that of a private investigator and is accompanied by a surety bond, used to ensure that the business operator complies with state law, and a nominal fee.

Furthermore with a criminal justice background, Alabama Bounty Hunters will be qualified to work as a certified Alabama law enforcement agent, Alabama corrections officer, or other criminal justice specialist certified to work in many law related fields.
