National Sex Offender Registry Created.
President GW Bush has signed into law a bill creating a National Sex Offender Registry. The law is called "Adam's Law" after Adam Walsh, who was abducted 25 years ago on July 27, 1981, and then found murdered subsequently. Adam's father, John Walsh, became the host of "America's Most Wanted" to make a difference and reduce the number of criminals who are walking the streets.

Re: National Sex Offender Registry Created.
I am so glad that this registry was created and that the public is able to view it at any time.
Re: National Sex Offender Registry Created.
There is an email list you can join in Georgia and you are emailed every time someone is added in your zip code. They email the persons picture along with their address and the reason they are on the list.

Re: National Sex Offender Registry Created.
They should include the national registry in the local telephone book, and locally put their ad next to their name also. Wouldn't that be something!
Re: National Sex Offender Registry Created.
I think it is long overdue. I think every state should not only have this ,but any violence acts or drug charges should have a registry created too. just alot better to know your neighbor better.

The Illinois Sex Offender Registry is awesome. It provides us citizens a wealth of information with regards to Registered Sex Offenders in our neighborhoods.

Re: National Sex Offender Registry Created.
I can not get in to the one in Colorado. Also, I have found out that one of my old neighbors in on the sex offenders list and he didnt update his address and he also lives with his girlfriend and she has to 2 kids from diffrent relationships and they have one together. I was woundering how could people let a sex offender round kids. I thought they are not aloud to have contact with children?
Re: National Sex Offender Registry Created.

What incredible timing, Johnny. I'm working on a project in my Ph.D. program, and it's about best community practices for monitoring sex offenders.
Thanks!!!

There is no law that sex offenders cannot live in a house shared by children, unless the terms of the probation has a lifetime ban. And if they are now married, then that would exclude any probation requirement. The law pertains to public areas of children. Further, if the offense has been settled, then the offender's record is "past" even though the name is still on the role.
Also, some sex crimes have very little to do with children and more to do with an underage teen romance that is now deemed as a sex crime. It all comes down to details and details, and knowing the full facts.
Re: National Sex Offender Registry Created.
Greetings my fellow Investigators:
Great to see this list and the FBI links. FYI, not all sex offenders (or registrants) are going to be listed in the database. In California for example a individual may be a registrant for getting caught with their pants down (i.e. public urination, fornication, passed out with their pants down or hands in their pants etc) and unless there is some other factors will not be listed on the Megan's Law website. They will of course still have to register (in California it is within a week of their birthday annually unless they are 'homeless' then it is every month or something like that. When they show up at their local Police station they are interviewed, printed and photographed. There is a process for these non-violent offenders to get cleared, it takes a bunch of counseling, proof of rehabilitation and an visit and order to a judge and is very very rare for obvious reasons. When they do not register or show up to provide current information, they have committed a new crime and can be arrested (ever hear of a warrant from heaven?). The ML website is for the violent sex offenders (molesters, rapists etc). I conducted a search in my neighborhood and was surprised to find several scary violent ones within a few blocks, as well as several which are in violation and the PD/DOJ is looking to apprehend. It is good to know who they are and where they reside.
A little off subject, but in the same vain: I would love to see local Narcotic and Arson registrants listed just like the sex offenders. These people are in the community, are required to register (in an identical manner as the perverts oh did I say that??) and are equally bad and dangerous for society. Of course the ACLU and others would scream, but I really would like to know if my neighbor is a dope fiend or a fire bug.
Best Wishes,
Dave
