If you have a local Vocational Counselor with the state (or federal), IPIU is an accepted organization to provide all of the advance academic courses, exams, computers, undercover equipment, training, and job placement once your Vocational Counselor approves the tuition. To proceed, simply have your Vocational Counselor call our office at 406-534-0251 so that we can receive instructions on billing the state (or the federal office).

Time is required, more than the money these days. If someone does not have the money for a computer and internet, all they need is a free library card to use the resources online for free.

There are millions in this country who are below the poverty line, and both Democrats and Republicans are not going to cut this group out with tax cuts. They don't talk about it much in the news, but if you listen carefully to the details - neither party advocates throwing the real needy out of the programs they can qualify for today - no matter what age.

But as an association, we have to provide our benefits to members who can afford $99 a year for dues. If someone cannot afford the dues, then they can ask for a sponsor, vocational funding, or tap into many other available resources.

Those members who have Level 4 access, and are disabled, would probably exchange any amount of money to have their good health back.

That said, we have some IPIU administrators who used to work 60 hours a week for IPIU and then found themselves disabled. The process of going from a vibrant career and good health to a few hours a week with poor health is such a change that many times depression sets in. Fortunately, the few IPIU admins who had to re-learn a change of lifestyle, routine, half a dozen specialist doctors, and the enormous application process to qualify for all local, state, and federal aid - proved a little easier for them because their careers centered around private investigations (locating the hidden facts and resources).

Some members frankly need an irrevocable fiduciary (IF) because they fall back into old habits and missed prescriptions. With an an honest and accountable IF in place, they never have to worry again about their disability or retirement income being managed properly. Without an IF, I have seen some disabled folks literally waste their money on toys, and then they get into deeper problems.

So the new Living on Disability Forum is an area where people can share resources that are current and not out of date. For the moment, we are blessed to have a few admins who have gone through the entire process in a matter of weeks and months, instead of may years as some people give up.

I too have always worked long hours in the EMS field and always feel i have it lucky after the tragedy I have seen, God has truly blessed me no matter what has happen. I believe happiness in within ones self. I guess I have too much pride to take what is offered I like to earn my way, I guess it is the way I was raised, don't misunderstand my message, it just seems more work for me to go through all the paperwork, rather than work for what I accomplish. More power to you, I am truly happy for you.

Approves the tuition, Like what? And How much does they cost the Vocational Rehabilitation from the state or federal in billing?
And How do I request Vocational Rehabilitation to contact IPIU and how get them to pay for it?

I sent a request.

When I was a child, I survived child abuse that left me with a disability. The abuse started very early. I was brought into the EMT at exactly 2 months old, and a medical consultation re-observation and Social Services follow up was schedualed, as well as a report sent to Albany, NY. I was observed by Child Protection Services, who stated that foster placement was NOT imminent.

Three years later, I was rushed via Rescue Squad to the Emergency Surgical Clinic in a Coma that lasted nearly three weeks. An emergency CT scan showed cerebral edema. At the time I weighed 11.7 lbs., with an urinary tract infection, considerable gaseous distention of the stomach, sweating, coughing, black and blue marks on the left side of my face with pale greenish hue, large superficial veins noted anteriorly, responding to pain with moans and fists tightly clenched. I was diagnosed with severe dehydration, with responsiveness waxing and waning. I was noted to have severe psychomotor retardation and not able to talk or walk as well as having right eye damage.

Along with all that, I have had muscle wasting, and was diagnosed as having “Severe mental and motor delay with spastic dyplegia secondary to cerebral trauma confirmed by CT scan, secondary to confirmed child abuse (reported); status post surgical repair left eye with present orthophoria. Emotionally traumatized secondary to abuse and neglect...”And his impression of my psychological status is “almost certainly retarded with organic brain damage; diminished gross and fine motor abilities.”

Ten surgeries and many years later later, I still walk with a limp, no longer needing my wheelchair, and am able to live a full, and healthy life. But a disability can change your view on life.

Remember the scene in "My Cousin Vinny" where Marisa Tomei is stomping her shoe and telling Joe Pesci that her "biological clock is ticking?"

Well, that was kind of the same with my disability. I have Spastic Diplegia, the most common form of Cerebral Palsy. CP is non-progressive, but it's effect on the body IS progressive. That is, the disability doesn't get worse, but it's effect compounds over time, thereby affecting the body greater and greater, incrementally.

I'm at the point where it's affecting my body in a way that I can no longer do the things I used to. It's like ageing, but much faster. I always knew I would end up here. So the decisions I made in my life up to now, was to maximize my opportunites to enjoy my mobility, while I had it. That doesn't always square with making good career or personal decisions. But I have know people bitter and disappointed, that they missed out on life, and they dished that out on everyone else. At times I may be discouraged, and bemoan i'm not in a place in life I would want to be, or hoped I would be by this point. But I am thankful for the time I had to enjoy my mobility.

I worked as a porter at a hospital, a busboy at a restaurant, for Blockbuster and at a pizza joint. I could have had a banking job, even started a typing position for a few weeks. I walked away from it. I took physical labor, because I could. It felt good going home after work sore. It felt good I could be relyed on to be able to do my job well enough, my co-workers talked about me glowingly afterwards, sometimes years so. I traveled all over the U.S. I got to meet intresting and sometimes, not so interesting people. I got to experience cultures not like my own. After my neice died, I chased a dream and went to school for audio engineering. It may not have worked out, but i'm glad for the experience.

Now it's time to turn a page, and focus closer to home. I was in a wheelchair when I was younger, and may yet end up back in one before I die. But not yet. I still have dreams to chase, and opportunites to persue. My New Years resolution, was to start my life anew. In 2013 I want to put the bad of my past to good use, and leave it behind me. I want to regain some of my mobility back. I want to do what everyone else did when they graduated from high school, and embarked on the next journey. I didn't really get to do that, because my life is kind of backwards, experience wise. I didn't fail to launch, I grabbed every chance to squeeze the most time out of what little I had, to enjoy something that had a shelf life about as short as I expected.

And I wouldn't have changed a thing if I could.

This is part of my new beginning. As I no longer have my mobility, I need to work at home. Maybe background checks etc... Any help in that regard, as well as what services and benefits I can use in accomplishing this, is very much appreciated.

Mr. Wylie. Your story is tragic and I wish there was some way I could assist you. I marvel and applaude your continuing strength you have from within. I do have a suggestion for you. Have you thought of becoming a writer? With your prose you could help many people who are and have gone through the tumultuous up and down battles you have overcome. There are many non-profits out there that would pay you to be on there board and help them help others. Just a thought sir. Good Luck! Jason
