View Full Version : What does "Mark All Forums Read" do?

Hello Everyone.
I've learned a great deal about posting on the forums and have read through the "Do This First" areas as well. If the answer to this question was there, I missed it.
At the bottom right corner of the HOME page (next to log out) you're given the option to "MARK ALL FORUMS AS READ". I overlooked it until recently and presumed it was a tracking mechanism which saves all the forums you visit during each session. I began clicking it this week each time I log off but didn't notice anything different. Have I erred?

Good question, Sandy. :)
http://www.ipiu.org/forums/images/on.gif This image is located at the very left side of each forum on the main page when you access the site.
If there is new activity in that forum, the image is highlighted yellow. Otherwise it is dark. This allows you to see where the newest activity is without accessing each individual forum.
"MARK ALL FORUMS READ" does the same thing as actually reading all the new activity. When you click on that option the yellow highlight is removed from the image.
Hope this helps. :)

Hello again Kandra,
Amongst other things, your response taught me two things:
1. Pay attention to the small print and extra features on
the HOME and all other IPIU forum pages
2. This information is part of your training. It's provided for a
reason and should not be overlooked.
I was so anxious to learn all I could, I tended to brush through the pages, only interested in obtaining specific information. It caused me to overlook the small print which led to my questions. The information you provided caused me to actually "LOOK CLOSER" and study the small print. Now, I review all the forum topics on the HOME page and check for recent activity. I go there first (within my access level) for the latest information. Thereafter, I continue reading through any unexplored forums, seek out tutorials or search for topics of special interest to me. At the end of my session, I MARK ALL FORUMS READ, to "CLEAR THE BOARDS" so to speak. Then, when I log on again, I know that the forums with a http://www.ipiu.org/forums/images/on.gif beside them contain updates since my last session. By subscribing to certain forums, I receive an email when activity occurs. Therefore, I'm kept abreast of relevent occurrences in the PI field. This really giives me a sense of accomplishment TRULY needed while I complete the credentialing process. A great big "HIGH FIVE!!!" for your assistance!
I'm more productive, manage my time better, cover a lot more territory and even have time to PAL AROUND with my peers in the after hours lounge! I still have lots of roads to travel but you've made the trip a lot more enjoyable! Stay  and ever moving forward!

Hi Ron,
I would say that means the attachment is not approved for use in the forums.
Please click on this http://www.ipiu.org/forums/images/top_faq.gif button located at the top of each page and read down it will explain attachments you'll find lots of other useful information in there also. Another good source is the http://www.ipiu.org/forums/images/top_search.gif button also located at the top just type in what your looking for and if the questions hae already been answered you will find the forum and link there.
Please try reading these links again to refresh your memory sometimes it helps to find answers to questions you may have overlooked. I have to do this also on occasion.

Hello Ronald and Welcome to IPIU!
I'm also new but may be able to answer this question for you. I believe that "may not post attachments" means that, unlike sending a personal email, you can not attach any Word or other outside document to your profile or entries on the forums. If you're totally new to IPIU and the forums, the following areas are a GREAT place to start!
Check out this Forum first.
Do This First is a good place to visit (http://www.ipiu.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3734)
Membership Info and other links (http://www.ipiu.org/forums//showthread.php?s=&threadid=3189)
General Discussions (http://www.ipiu.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=6)
My recommendation would be that you take time to read through these forums first then explore other forums in your access level. The small print under the forum topic line/bar on the HOME page tells you the access level required to enter each group of forums. It may seem a bit overwhelming at first, but you'll soon be navigating the forums with the best of us! Be sure that the topic you're addressing is in the proper forum so your questions are answered.

It's important that you not feel alone or become discouraged in your pursuits. There are many IPIU members at various stages in their PI careers and new members join every day! We're all on the same road traveling together! To this end, I wish you every future success and look forward to hearing more from you in the forums!
:), learn, explore and participate! You'll love the experience!

Hi Becky,
Seems I was a little too slow in taking the first opportunity to repay all those who have assisted me since joining IPIU. I seem unable to delete the note but wanted you know our posts were 2 minutes apart. I was pondering while you were acting. Right on time!
