Hi Hope someone will answer this question soon:
What is meant by "subcribing to this forum" and
What is meant by "mark forum read"
I have been reading these forums daily, but not all of them.
Is this the reason I am not upgraded to enter some forums?
I contacted everyone except SantaClaus on this question, but everyone's out to lunch!!
I figured out a lot by myself as to the forums, but I have 2 names : Nan C Medved and Nancy C. Medved, (is this confusing?)
and just found out tonite that I have to sign in at the bottom of the page in order to participate! Well, if I didnt know I had tosign in, I would be blocked out of the forum, and dont know which name to sign in as. Is this the reason?
Oboy, now I am confused? Please clear this up ok? Thanks

As long as it isn't a personal file question, always ask here first. You'll probably get a quicker response.

Subscribing to a forum gets you the same results as turning on your email notification. You receive a notification everytime someone replies to the thread.

When you "Mark forums as read" you're doing just that. It's marks all new posts in every forum as having been read by you and the "new message" highlight is removed from all the icons (this http://www.ipiu.org/forums/images/on.gif to this http://www.ipiu.org/forums/images/off.gif).

Neither one does anything major. Just remember, you can always unsubscribe, but marking the forums as read can't be reversed. So if you decide to do it and then change your mind, you'll have to locate the (unmarked) new posts by date.

Send an email to Technical Support and tell them which way you want your name and to eliminate the extra one. To by pass having to log on every time, click on the user cp button at the top of the page, then click on "Edit Options". The second line in the options menu is "Automatically login when you return to the site? (uses cookies)", mark the "yes" circle and click the submit button. You'll be logged in automatically every time.

Hope this helps.

Thank you Larry for your reply to my questions of the forums.
I will read and re-read them to make sure I understand.

In addition to Nancy's state. Will checking or signing the forums move us to a higher level, so that agencies will look at us for assignments (sorry not sure if I wrote in the correct space, first time repling) ?

Iiesha,

First of all, welcome aboard. We're always glad to meet new people.

As for your question, no, subscribing to the forums won't get you upgraded to a higher level. In order to do that, you have to meet certain requirements.

In order to post here, you had to register and receive a password. This allows you the right/ability to post comments or questions in the first four forum areas: Public Discussions, Public Licensing, General Discussion, and the Leisure, Lifestyle and Entertainment forums.

To receive an upgrade to enter the Restricted Forum areas, you must be a member of IPIU and already have your Code of Ethics signed, returned, and in your file. Then you can request an upgrade by sending an e-mail to usa@ipiu.org.

The next group of forums are the Private Forums. In order to access these, you must first be a member of IPIU, have your signed Code of Ethics on file, and also must have your Availability Form filled out and on file with IPIU. Once they have it on file, if you are not automatically upgraded you can request a second upgrade by e-mailing the same address listed above.

The last group of forums are the Confidential Discussion Forums. Access to these forums are on an individual basis. Requirements vary for each one. For instance, if you signed up and were accepted as a Forum Tech Guide, you would be allowed access to only one of these boards. If you received an upgrade to Moderator, you may have access to a second board. The rest of the boards listed under this forum are for the upper levels of 'management' as I think of it, and therefore will never be accessable by the majority of people on the forums, myself included probably.

The one exception to the above rules is the board that deals with Bounty Hunters. This board is exclusively for discussions that deal with this type of work. Because of this it includes very sensitive information/tips and thus, requires special permission from IPIU to access.

When you post a reply to a thread, you are automatically signed up to receive an e-mail notifying you when someone else posts a reply in that forum. This way, you know exactly when someone answers a question that you have asked without checking in every ten minutes to see. But what if you have a thread that particularly interests you, but you don't want to post a reply? How do you know when someone has added something to that thread that you might want to read? That is where subscribing comes in.

If you see a thread that fits this description, simply click on the "Subscribe to this thread" link. You will automatically receive an e-mail every time someone posts a new reply to that thread. If the discussion turns (as discussions often do) and you don't feel that you are interested in the thread anymore, you can click on the "Unsubscribe" link and you will no longer get notifications.

Hope this clears up a bit of the confusion. Be sure to stop by our Forum Members Introduction Lounge when you have a chance and post an intro for yourself so everyone can officially welcome you to the family. You can read other people's introductions to get an idea of what you would feel comfortable saying about yourself.

Keep reading and if you have any questions that you can't find the answer to, be sure to ask.

You already have Level 4 access. You just need to participate more on the forums you have access to. :)
