View Full Version : Apply here or directly with the firm?

Greetings,
I've spent the last few hours readings topics here and still have a couple questions. I responded to an ad posted by a firm. I sent them a resume but part of their ad mentioned IPIU and gave a phone number for an application. I tracked down this website and am very impressed with the opportunity. Should I wait to hear from them or can I just order the free application here?
Either way I'm very serious about becoming a PI! I'm just not really sure if I need to be referred by someone to actually start working as one...
Second question: I was a Marine Officer for six years and had a secret security clearance, would the fact that the FBI already has all my info and prints help speed up the process at all?
Any help would be appreciated. I've learned so much on this forum in just a few hours and I'm really looking forward to getting more involved. I'm already having a hard time tempering my excitement...

Do both!
If you also apply through IPIU and become a member of the union, you'll be entitled to additional referrals for openings with other firms to!

You only need to be referred by a firm if you use the unlisted telephone number the firm gave you to receive a Placement Application. Otherwise, you can choose from any of the applications posted in the following Membership Topic:

Original FBI fingerprint cards are rarely surrendered to another agency or firm. They hold onto them as proof of their checks. A Security Clearance that is current (in other words, they continue to monitor your conduct each month through the FBI's Wants and Warrants) is considered a waiver for the Criminal Warrants Registration Application. The waiver form is available from IPIU. Otherwise, you can use the CWR app and they will issue you a new ID good for 3 years of monitoring.

Greetings,
I too had the same questions that Steve Minor asked, the only difference was that I was in the Air Force (Military Police).
I e-mailed and faxed my resume to IPIU regarding a classified ad in the paper for a Private Investigator position with a Law firm and was wondering if someone will contact me wether the position was filled or not ?
I have always had an intrest in becoming a PI, this website has really fired up my desire to pursue this avenue
Thanks!

Welcome to the Private Investigatoirs Forums!
If you faxed a resume to a law firm, they handle any replies they wish to choose.
IPIU provides a membership application for several different programs, including referring you to a number of agencies.

I am looking into leaving my current job (full time) and pursuing a career as a Private Investigator (full time, steady pay check).
Does this mean that if I'm finshed with an investigation, that there may be a period of time that I'm not working ?
Thanks!
