Hi Christina.

Let me refer you to a link that you may find useful.
Click here: Guideline and Quick Tips For Navigating The IPIU Forums (http://www.ipiu.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1865)
Be sure you read the "Click Here First: Have Personal Questions?" topic at the top of each forum. You may also find a topic titled "Rules for posting in this forum".
We want you to feel at home here. Just be sure you read everything you have access to. That will help you the most.
Happy browsing. I will be watching for you in the Introduction Lounge.

Christina:
Welcome.
The forums are for read and comment. It is not live (like chat).
Every forum has a special theme or purpose.
Choose a forum that interest's you by clicking on the forum title bar.
Then scroll down the list of Topic Titles that other members have authored.
Many topic titles are questions, and when you click on the topic title line, you can read the author's question or comment. Then you can scroll down the topic and see the other "replies" that other members posted in response to the orginal question or topic.
When you want to leave the topic title and look at others, use the BACK BUTTON, or look at the top of the page and click on HOME.
If you find a specific topic that you have a question about, click on the "Post Reply" button and type your comment. Then click PREVIEW to see what it looks like. You can retype and make changes before clicking the SUBMIT button.
If you want, send an email to tutor@ipiu.org and you will receive easy web links that teach you how our forum software works.
All comments and questions that are posted are answered before 24 hrs by other members and the moderators.
But for now, you have many questions and MOST of your questions have been asked over the years in the topic titles. So you may more reading of the topics to do before asking. Still, we want you to participate and post.
As mentioned before, there is a forum for Introductions.

Welcome Christina,
If you look at the top of your screen, next to the picture of the three kids, you will find a row of little blue buttons labeled "User CP', "Register", and so on. To the right is one marked "FAQ" that you will want to check out. This has some of the most frequently asked questions and answers, which will help alot. Feel free to print it off to look at while you navigate the forums. That will be easier than running back to the top each time you have a question.
Also, to the immediate right of it (you may have to scroll your screen just a bit to see it), you will see a "SEARCH" button. This is the newcomer's (and seasoned citizen's) best friend. You can look for questions that deal with what you want to know. You can search by the name of the author if you want to see posts by one person. Or if you saw a post that dealt with a particular topic that you can't remember where to find, just type in a search word.
For instance, let's say you want to know what to expect after you receive your fingerprint card. Just hit the SEARCH button at the top of the page, type in the word "fingerprint", and hit Search at the bottom. You will get a list of all the topics and posts with the word fingerprint in them. You can go through and see what all has been posted previously, which will probably answer your question.
Or if you see a post from someone and you really want to read more from that person, go to SEARCH and type in the name of the author that you want to see. You will see a list of all the posts that have been done by that particular author. Keep in mind however, until you receive your upgrade you may not have access to everything that person has posted due to the location of the post. That will come in due time.
If you want to know the difference between NEW THREAD and POST REPLY buttons, just go to SEARCH, type in the key words NEW THREAD, and hit Search. You will find the topics with the words in them. Reading the posts already in place should help you to understand the difference.
If you have questions that you can't find the answers to, or if you find posts that you don't understand clearly after reading, don't hesitate to ask. Don't be afraid of asking a dumb question for there are no dumb questions except the ones that aren't asked. If you don't know and you don't ask-you don't learn.
Everyone has different areas of interest and skills. What we are here to do is learn from each other. So read all you can get ahold of, ask lots of questions, make lots of new friends, and hang on for what may turn out to be the best ride of your life. You will have so much information thrown at you so quick that you won't be able to absorb it all at first. Copy off anything that you think you might need to look at in the future and put it in a binder or folder for future reference. Read it often, for the more you read the more you remember. You will be surprised at how quickly it all starts to make sense.
Check out the links given to you above, check out the FAQ button above, and remember to SEARCH for anything you want to know about. If you can't find it, then try to figure out which forum it should go into and ask.
Welcome again and I'll see you in the Introduction forum.

My name is Danielle and I am in processing as we speak. Since you are 2 months in how long did it take you to get placed? Do you work for different agencies or just one? How many hours do you put in? Is it as fun as it sounds? Last but not least, is the pay really good?
Sorry for all the questions. You are physically working and there is no better person to ask.

Welcome to the forums, Danielle! :)
I was required to move your post over here to the Tech Support Forum for a couple of reasons.
Here's a policy quote:
"As for "success stories", IPIU does not use testimonials in the public forums to induce private investigators to join their association. Rather, they should read of the different educational and resource benefits available to all members (in the same forum I mentioned) before making a wise decision to pursue membership. If they are granted membership, then they will have access to the private forums where resources can be exchanged freely without the risk that any one member may violate their Code of Ethics.
Therefore, we do not promote members to discuss the details of their confidential files outside of the private forums. If you are just starting, then you will be upgraded gradually to some of the advance private forums. :)
As for most of your questions, there are tons of good stuff to be found on the forums! Here are a few links that might be a good starting point. They paint a good picture of the forum rules, membership levels, and what IPIU has to offer its members.

Before my packet arrived I got a call on my answering machine saying that I had been placed. I started the process online. Is there a way I can find out where I have been placed?
Thanks :)

If they did not tell you, it's possible the ageny wants IPIU to perform all of the pre-processing before you are introduced to the managers. Otherwise, your private file is at Agent Relations and not on the forums.

Mike, welcome to the forums.
The work and assignments are not posted in the public forums. They are either mailed out, emailed out, or posted in the private forums once you have gained an upgrade.
Please read all of the titles in this forum, plus the Union Membership forum about upgrades.
Thanks.
