An Oceanside private investigator is accused of masterminding a plot to kidnap and torture an Oregon financial adviser on his way to San Diego to recoup millions of dollars embezzled from members of a quasi-religious group. William L. Calder, 52, was arrested before the alleged abduction attempt and is jailed in Sacramento in lieu of $1 million bail, authorities said.

This is awful! Hopefully this is just one random case and won't reflect badly on our field and give PI's a bad reputation. I'm so glad that man tipped off the authorities before anything vicious could happen.

Every profession has bad cases such as this. The only reason cases reflect bad upon the agency is because the media plays it off as such. It is very frustrating, but that's what makes the news.

Praise the Lord that the rotten apple was captured before the crime was done! This is a shame when people are hired to do the job and then they turn on the ones that trusted them! This is just one noted in a barrell of good PI's!
