Starting Jan 1, 2005, all cell phone numbers will be made public to telemarketing firms.
So this means as of Jan 1, you may receive calls from telemarketers, but unlike your home phone, most of you pay for your incoming calls. These telemarketers will eat up your free minutes and end up costing you money in the long run.
According to the National Do Not Call List, you have until Dec.
15th 2004 to get on the national "Do not call list" for cell
phones. They said that you need to call 1-888-382-1222 from the
cell phone that you wish to have put on the "do not call list" to
be put on the list. They also said you can do it online at
https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx.
Registering only takes a minute, is in effect for 5 years and will
possibly save you money (definitely frustration)!

Thanks Thomas. I know they were talking about giving the cell phone numbers to telemarketers but I was sure they wouldn't dare do that. Guess I was wrong.

Ouch! That's not right for cell phone users to be charged for an incoming call from an unsolicited salesperson. I also feel for the telemarketers who are going to get cussed out even more than they already are.

This is partially true - but it shouldn't be quite the way most emails are stating it. For a headsup look go to http://www.snopes.com/politics/business/cell411.asp

Cell phone providers are looking into providing your cell #' s to outside companies. Nothing has come about of this yet. I don't think it will happen. Cell phone companiess realize that they are opening themselves up to many law suits by doing so.

Thanks Tom for the info.
Man I sure to hate those telemarketers...I know they are just trying to make a buck, but come on man, when I say not interested...I mean it.
Also I like saying...sorry you've caught me at a bad time, can you call back when I'm not home.

LOL! That's a good one, Don! I've also heard, "May I have your home phone number so I can call you back later tonight?"

Good one-liners. I'll have to try those. I got rid of my home phone completely, largely due to telemarketers.
