I have just got my membership app. pkge. Once I send in the Criminal Warrant Check, and go through the process of getting the photos and fingerprints, is there a sample .gif or .jpg image of the credentials and badge available ?

For the photo credentials, I am not sure.
For the badge wallet, yes there is a photo, but your forum access must be upgraded in order to access that forum.
If you scroll down the forum home page, you will find a section titled "IPIU Members Only: Restricted area" Once your forum access is upgraded, you will be able to access that and possibly other forums that you are currently not authorized to participate in.
I believe Technical Support is the one that has the capabilities of upgrading access. There may be others as well. Upgrade notification can come via a post on a forum advising of the upgrade, or an e-mail.
You're on the right track to be upgraded. It just takes time to process everything. It will happen. Patience is a virtue. That is a lesson I continually have to learn! ;)

(This is reduced size scanned picture sample. The full size ID looks great)
You will also receive a sample black and white copy of the actual size, so that you can have your photos taken properly.

I notice that the info that was sent to me has the choice of a Badge-Wallet Combination, which is a 3 fold wallet. Are there other choices? Since I am female, I do not carry a wallet. Is there a 2 fold wallet (without pocket for cash), or can you order the badge only without a wallet?

To answer questions, yes, the options you mentioned are available. You will know more about them when you have Level 2 access, thus access to the Badge Forum. This will be available to you once you are a credentialed member of IPIU.
If you have received your photo credentials, but do not have access to the Badge Forum, email upgrade@ipiu.org.

Since I didn't order my badge and wallet, I guess that I can order it at a later date? I am just being curious. Thanks for the response. Later.

I just received my photo-credentials and other forms, and I had a question about the badge before I sent the forms in....
1) Is the badge required?
2) Do you need it for only certain types of work?
3) Is the badge just highly recommended?
4) Also, is it easy to get if I wanted to get one later?
Thanks

Benjamin,
1. No badges are not required depending on what state your in. usualy your company I.D. and state license are sufficient.
2. No
3. Yes I highly recommend the badge as it looks more professional if you have one.
4. Yes is easy to get.:)

Thanks George. I think I will hold off on the badge for now. I will get one when I'm closer to getting an assignment.
Thanks again

I have a Private Security License that resembles a social security card that fits in you wallet.
Is the PI badge a peice of paper or plastic like a drivers license, or a shiny metal badge like I think it is. If it is metal what information do they post on the badge?

Aloha! Nelson,
The PI Photo Credentials is plastic and the Badge itself is made from Rhodium it has your personal ID # on it and it says Private Investigator on the top and Case Examiner on the bottom. It is a heavy piece that comes w/ a wallet. It depends what you ordered. I hope I answered your question. Have a great evening...........

Ben Fabert Dear Benjamin,
I merged your question to this topic (Photo Credentials and Badge) within membership Benefits Forum. Reason is that we need to keep these Forums and threads as neat as possible.
The badge is very nice. You will see it in one of our Forums at Level 3. Have a nice week. ;)

Do you ever have to renew the badge:D

I have my credentials they just arrived this Saturday. It was great to go to my mail box and see this thick envelope with the IPIU symbol on it. I couldn't wait to open it. I can't believe it, I HAVE MY CREDENTIALS.
This is a great day!
Now I have to submit my paper work for my badge and wallet and begin my search for an assignment. In the mean time I will continue to read and read and read everything I can get my hands and on.
Debra Lewis -
01-26-2004, 11:03 AM
i have read in other forums that it is best to wait for IPIU to refer us to agencies to get on the job training.
once we get our photo credentials...
can we approach agencies to request unpaid ride-alongs to get more of a live sense of what the job entails?
what are your thoughts on this?
Michael Levy--
01-26-2004, 01:41 PM
I've been on a ride along with the Sheriff dept. It just depends on the law enforcement agency and how their proceedures are.
Thanks,

Joyce, give them another two, or three weeks. If you don't get your badge by then send an email to uas@ipiu.org, and ask them when you can expect your badge. Enjoy reading on the forum while you are waiting.

Debra Lewis -

FYI
when i went to get a passport photo at wallgreens for the photo credentials, the passport size is too big...
if you have the camera person step back about a foot from where they normally shoot the photo,
you will become small enough in the photo, that you can crop your headshot out of the passport photo, and it will fit 1 1/8 x 1 1/8...
good luck!

Hi Debra,
I had them do that this time. And then I just cut off all the excess to fit the example. I hope this means that they were just wating for this photo to come back and get my I.D. and the rest of the package ready to send.

My photo creditials expired, I have re-joined and paid for my yearly membership, my questions is, will IPIU send me an ID with the same pic and new expiration date, or do I have to take new pictures and send to IPIU so that they can re-do the ID and send it back to me?

3) Renewal Forms include the option to have either a Renewal Sticker to be placed on their photo-credentials, or they can choose to have a new photo added, or they can choose to have the same photo used on a new card with new dates printed.
I hope that this helps answer your question. :)

I placed mine in the custom badge-wallet that I purchased from IPIU. It doesn't get much sturdier than that. :D
I did notice that the ID is made with a 10 mil plastic, which is what my miliatry ID was made of. Maybe you're speaking of a credit card type of thickness.

Hello all...
I recently recieved my "photo credentials" and noticed that my name is backwards--that is, they reversed my first and middle names.
since I use only my first initial on anything [including legal forms, etc.] and go by my middle name, is it really necessary that I send this back for it to be corrected? I am okay with how it is...but, legally is it useable?
[ie: my name on my ss. card (etc) is "C. Lynnette Thomas." my full name (birth certificate) is "Carol Lynnette Thomas." the name on my IPIU photo ID is "Lynnette Carol Thomas."]
thanx fer the help!
lynnette

Hi Julie, Just wanted to ask you about the PI Academy you are talking about , do they just offer dipolma's or degree's..Our state does not give credit for dipolma's when trying to get your license. Im taking a private investigator from Penn Foster now but this is just for the information I learn, not that it will help me to get my license. I wish it did, that is my goal. Thanks
