View Full Version : The Intangible Benefits of IPIU Membership/Participation

Jeff,
There are several very good reasons to run around the forums reading and commenting.
1 - you learn about the laws and regulations that govern our professional behavior
2 - you learn about you peers (that is us - the good guys)
3 - you develop reading and researching skills - essential to PI work
4 - you develop writing skills - even more essential to PI work
5 - you keep occupied while the paperwork travels back and forth
6 - you have fun learning
It sounds almost unbelievable, but it's all true. I've only been onboard with IPIU for two weeks, and the benefits of actively participating in these forums is evident to me every day, in many ways.
One other benefit that for me has been very valuable, is that by sharing whatever I have to be of assistance to another, or to just help someone feel welcome, results in my feeling better about myself. I find it easier to face my own difficulties (we all have them) after I've extended myself to another.
Instead of dwelling on the fact, for example that I'm currently unemployed, I get to participate in something within a community of like minded individuals (yes, Mike the good guys & gals) and know that I am able to contribute to making my little piece of the puzzle of life better.
Actually my unemployed status is an advantage to me in having the time to spend reading, and re-reading, and then reading again and again all the various information contained here. Especially the Code of Ethics, the Forum Rules, and the Who we are part of the "Newcomers Do This First": http://www.ipiu.org/forums/showthread.php?t=6688
Whether you rattle on as I do, because I love to write, or just say a few things, maybe one sentence, that can be the one piece of information or encouragement that another person needs to hear.
There are few places anymore where there is such a bond and sense of community. Don't worry about the numbers, just do what you can do, and keep going through these forums. We will all find that niche, where whatever our special talents & abilities are fits in perfectly, but it takes time.
This is the place to come and learn, listen, share and find out where it is that you want to be. One step at a time. Crawl....Stand....Walk.....Run.... & eventually if you persevere I believe it is possible to FLY, just like the eagle in the IPIU Emblem...it all takes time, and that is something we all have, in whatever increments we possess. Time is our most valuable possession, and it can not be replaced, so we need to use it wisely. This is the place, This is the time. These are the people.
Do what you can, and all will work out just right! As you can see I'm very pleased to have found my way to IPIU, and I hope you all share that feeling.
Best Regards and Wishes for your success, at whatever level you are and wherever it takes you.

Thank you B. Ann both for your kind words and for moving my post to the testimonials. I can't tell you enough how impressive and outstanding a job you and all the IPIU staff do and perform by keeping these forums in good working order. It is a real testimony to the intangible and tangible benefits of being a member of IPIU.
As I progress in my journey here I only mirror what you and the others have laid the groundwork for over the years. I have received so much from everyone, and so I give back whatever I can, whenever I can. Never before have I seen such teamwork in evidence. It is truly outstanding and extra-extraordinary.

Michael,
Thank you for the complement, I know that you too will travel in the same direction. When you can recognize a positive attitude in another, you do so because you possess the same ingredients.
In my life I have overcome many difficulties and obstacles, and there were times in my life when I had to fight alone. It made me strong, but I have always kept these words with me throughout the past 30 years.
"Every adversity has within it the seed of an equivalent or a greater benefit"

Dabra, thank you. I am glad you feel as you do. IPIU has so many benefits. I just hope the members take full advantage of what all is contained in our forum.
I couldn't agree with you more. I have learned through this forum over my years. You can really grow. Reading, and understanding what you have read is the key. Keep up your good work. Good luck in all you do. ;)
Have a wonderful weekend. Take care. :)

I have been around this board for a short time. But let me tell you, it sure is a great place to learn about being a private investigator, bounty hunter, process server, etc...what a place!!!!!

Debra: As they say "You hit the nail on the head." Very well put, IPIU is one of the best places of this kind. I once tried to get into another business (I won't say what business, I do not want affend any one) and found that noone wanted to teach you the ropes per say! Everyone was afraid that if they give out to mutch info to anyone they might become theire competition. IPIU and it's members are just waiting to tell you anything and everything you want to know about becoming and being a Private Investigator. I agree with you whole heartedly. God luck and may God bless you in everything you do.

Thank you Randy, blessings to you as well. You have peaked my curiosity as to what business it was, but basically all businesses are the same dog eat dog mentality, and I have searched high and low for an organization like IPIU, wherein I could find the other people who were of a mind set similar to mine. It has been a long and disheartening road that I've traveled to be here.
After I again was fired from my last job for failing to cooperate and keep quiet....SHHH with all manner of health violations and unethical practices, an associate of mine from California said this:
"Thanks for the email. I am sorry to hear that you are unemployed. Commerce may not be prepared for
your insightful ethics and spirit. Good luck on finding a new job."
Besides finding IPIU, I have been seeking employment as well, as I have no independent wealth which to sustain myself. Let me also say at this time:
;) WELCOME TO THE IPIU FAMILY RANDY BARNES!!! ;)
I wish you the best in your new endeavors here, and look forward to "Seeing” you around………..this electronic campus.
We are the Class of 2004-2005. That is exactly how I perceive the kind of virtual reality lifestyle here, and we are classmates who will probably never meet face to face. But we are classmates and I look forward to your being in my graduating class! GO CLASS OF 2004-2005
PS: Meet me and the others at the Science Lab at 1900 hours! LOL, actually we could set a time and post back and forth on the same topic.....Hmmmm. What say you Petra?

I am speechless...lol, what more can I say. You said it all and speak from my heart. I tell you what I say... I am sitting here, looking at your posts instead of getting my lawn cut, my house vacuumed, instead of getting ready for work. I am glued to the forums, lol... I really really got to go now. See you at the science lab (still haven't found it, lol - no hint?) at 22:00 hours

OK I give in.....The Science Lab is between the cafeteria and the Library in the new Annex, you know just across from the football field. I have quite an imagination don't I?
It's the same for me I get into the forums and find more information than I found before and I'm learning so much. The hours just go by like minutes.
I also went to the library, looked up Criminology, went to that section and just browsed. I ended up finding some incredible books, not the the least of which is on Gary Ridgeway, the Green River Killer of Washington State.
Fascinating stuff. I ended up checking out 8 books. All because I had done a search on Private Investigators and turned up a manual, but had to order it from the County System. I sure can not afford the $$ to buy books to read, but they are there for the taking/borrowing.
I"m glad you posted today I was wondering why you didn't meet me at the science lab. 2200 hours....Sounds good to me. I think it must be that my military time is still not right. I need to practice it and for some reason it just won't jell. (Not Kidding)
"See" you later.

I think I should've known about this site 3 years ago...I would've been very far in my PI career...I'm catching up now.

I hear ya on that... I wish I would have stumbled across IPIU several years ago.
But we cannot change the past, only make the most of what we have now. Good luck. ;)

Hi Dabra,
you are late ;) 22:00 hours is 10 pm not am...lol...(don't worry, I was late, too). I wanted to check our local library as well, just haven't had time yet. I know that we cannot buy some of the book on the outside (that are advertised through IPIU) but we might be able to find them at the library I was told...
I just got back from NJ (stepdaughter got married) and then had long trip back (24 hours) because we moved my stepson down to GA with us (excited). We were OVERloaded, no kiddin... so now, helping out getting moved in and work and forums....etc.... I'll have more time tonight...maybe I'll see ya :D
