When dialing from a manual fax machine, do the following:

a) Place the paper in the fax machine first;

b) Without picking up the handset, simply punch the numbers on the fax machine's dial pad for the fax number you are calling;

c) After the correct fax number is displayed, hit the "Start" key on the manual fax machine. The fax machine will then dial the number (without the handset picked up) and when the line is answered both fax squawk's will be interpreted as a fax and not a voice call. The paper will then be sent.

If this fails, and you are still using a manual fax machine, repeat step "a" above and then pick up the handset and dial the fax number.

After the voice greeting starts, press the star button (*) on your dial pad, and you will immediately hear the fax squawk. Then immediately hit your START BUTTON, and hang up the handset. Your fax will then go through.

If you are using a computer PC fax card, there should be a dial box or dial line in your fax program to enter the fax number your are dialing from your computer:

a) When entering a fax number, you can use comma's and stars (*) in the dial line to help the transmission;

b) If you want to delay the dialing, use comma's between the numbers, such as 1,,416,,352,5990

c) If you want your PC fax program to dial a star (*) as outlined above in the manual fax machine instructions, then try the following:

1,416,352,5990,,,,*

This will place a small pause where the commas are, and a longer pause with the four commas and star.

The star (*) will start both faxes.

If you need additional telephone help, we have a USA company that can walk you through it. Just send an email to technical@ipiu.org and ask which USA company can offer you telephone support.

Other Notes:

1) It is a 24-hr Voice Mail and Fax line;

2) If you are "hearing" the voice message that says "To send a fax, start your transmission now", that means you need to immediately hit the START BUTTON on your manual fax machine and hang up. But better, you should hit the STAR (*) button first, and then hit the START BUTTON ad hang up the handset.

3) Whenever you "hear" the voice greeting of a combined voice mail and fax line, the telephone system interprets you are calling from a voice line and NOT a fax line. It hears the background noise normally associated with telephones. Fax machines do not have background noise. That is why you need to leave the handset on the cradle of fax machines and just do the dialing from the dial pad as explained above.
