Hi Sara,
Dale Kirchhofer has started a thread titled "Log In /Log Out". (http://www.ipiu.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10964)
He and myself are requesting IPIU to take a look into this viable option, which could improve overall time and efficiency of the union members.
Thanks Sara.

Dear Sara,
Please don't get me wrong but I like to request to remove PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR from all the envelopes and replace it with only IPIU on all the correspondence with the "snail mail" delivery. Why?
Because it clearly identifies that we are PI to the postal employee and if by chance mailman or lady drops the envelope under wrong post box number then the person who opens it, finds that it is not his or her mail will leave it at the top of the postal boxes which fully displays to many people that we are indeed a Private Investigator. (I am talking about those members who live in an apartment and like to keep low profile)
You and we, are much better off with just plain IPIU on the top of the envelope and the address underneath. What do you think? (please leave IPIU in this abbreviated form only)
Hope this suggestion passes through the administration. ;)
Thanks in advance.
Peace,
Angela Virgo -

I had not really considered the return post address although it did suprise me when I received mail. I agree that a low profile is a much better way to stay "Private".

Hi Sara,
I have another request which I believe may benefit all union members.
Instead of providing a link to the thread and searching through all the post inside that thread why not IPIU program this site which can give a direct link to the "actual post" that is interesting. (no pun intended to the author of that thread)
For example, let's say that I am on a different thread and one of the union member asks for a "Public Record" topic to which I tell him or her that Scarlet DeLos Santos has given out an interesting post which you must read but in order to look for that post, you must first go to this thread (http://www.ipiu.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2709) and then scroll down until you see Scarlet's name. Boy, that's mouthful.
<center>OR</center>
I tell him or her that Admin also has given an interesting post at this thread (http://www.ipiu.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2090) but you need to scroll down until you see the Admin's post for "http://searchsystems.net"
Some threads may have 5, 7, 10 or more pages and I don't want the union member to scroll down and search and search through all the available posts inside that thread. (later, one should definitely read all the post to get acquainted better) If IPIU just make this little twist in the program then I think any union member can show an exact link to a post to other union member, who doesn't need to scroll down and search and search.
I hope my message gets through.
Thank you Sara and IPIU for accepting our suggestions!!! :p
Peace,

Hi,
Have a suggestion...since manual is the one that takes the longest in process...maybe IPIU should have the option that people can download it at the level 3. This way save some money for printing and wait time for members. :D

Why not add a persons level with their name on the left side of the posts.
That way when someone asks a question we will all be able to determine their level and respond accordingly without breaking any forum rules.
Catherine Tsai -

Hey Dan
Great suggestion... so people don't have to guess if they have reached certain level or not.. it's all disply on the side. :)

That way when someone asks a question we will all be able to determine their level and respond accordingly without breaking any forum rules. A member's Level is a part of their private file.
Of the few members who have been awarded the IPIU Seal, they must be either Level 3 or Level 4.
Moderators who are responsible for the ultimate director of a member's comment - already have access to their particular Level. But they do not disclose it publicly unless there is a good reason.
Some members are reduced in their Levels because of a variety of personal issues that should not be posted in the public boards.
But typically, the majority of active members with many posts are at least Level 3 and 4. But we have thousands who are Level 4 that rarely have the time to post here.
Still, your suggestion will stay in this topic, and there may be a change to allow some levels to be known.

Peace, The feature is already available at the top of every forum page. The button is titled SEARCH.
In the SEARCH box, you can simply paste in any member's User Name. Then add a keyword and walla!

Peace, Good point.
But since the attack on New York on 9-11, IPIU has arranged with both Canadian and USA Postal authorities not to change their envelopes. The reason? It speeds IPIU's mail along without delay because they have long recognized our LOGOs and documents and name.
However, this is another project that Betty is working on. Please email betty@ipiu.org to remind her of the "color change" in our business size envelopes that was approved.

Dear IPIU,
I feel :o to ask for this suggestion but I think it will help all of us in the long run.
Could you please enter either "M" (Male) or "F" (Female) besides or underneath member's name?
Some names are really hard in figuring out if the person on the other end is indeed "He" or "She"?
Wish there was POD (Picture On Demand) technology available! ;)
Sorry IPIU and all my friends, my intention is plain & simple and by no means of inflicting prejudice.
Thank you all for understanding.

Thank you all for understanding. Members can personalize their PROFILE by typing in any additional information in the box titled INTERESTS or BIOGRAPHY, or Occupations. The Profile feature is designed to add more personal information than the User Name and titles offer.

Hi Cynthia,
I know the profile button but I am sorry to say that it doesn't tell us anything about the gender. :o
Most of the members leave it blank.
Again, I am talking about ONLY certain names that are hard to guess?
Cynthia, please don't get upset as my main point here is not to embarrass ourself or to a member by typing "He" when it is SHE or by typing "She" when it is HE. Got it? ;)

Hi Cynthia,
Sorry for taking your time. I tried adding an "s" but didn't work.
Cynthia, all I'm trying to suggest IPIU is to "tweak" the software a little bit so instead of showing pages after pages, it can just show the one and Only One Post out of entire thread that a member wants another member to read or take a look into.
Hope this helps.

In the SEARCH BUTTON, the instructions state to use the word "and" to connect more than one keyword.
public records
type
public and records
Then change the bullet to show results by posts.
And the results are here:
http://www.ipiu.org/forums/search.php?s=&action=showresults&searchid=71687&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descending
If you change the bullet to search titles only and to show results by threads, then you get this:

Hello Everyone,
As always, I read and re-read comments before asking any questions or making comments.
I do believe that Dan, was on the right track when suggesting that levels be placed by the names of members.
Yes, the public may see what level you are but, they will get the same Opps!! I get when I do the hit and miss game when I enter a forum that I am not allowed to enter, which is very furstrating.
The public may see what level we are, but they still have no access to the forums above level one. And do not forget about the Opps!! mesage.

Hello Admin and Tech Support,
I have a suggestion for a new forum link. Those of us who complete apartment shops for integrity investigations companies aren't quite sure where to report our completed assignments. I have been posting mine under the integrity investigations forum, within one of the links regarding apartment shops.
It would be great if a separate forum could be created just for this specific type of shop with the integrity investigations forum. Just as there are forums for the specific companies and states, maybe there could be a forum for apartment shops. We could enter all of the relevant information, including which shop the assignment was for, just as we do for the state forums.
Plesae consider this suggestion and help us stay organized and get the credit we deserve for all our hard work.
Thanks!

In my opinion the Training Manual and test information should be available on-line. this would save months of time. You can go to any law inforfocement division to get a fingerprint card. This would save much time for the process. Test answers could be entered thru a secure site thru ipiu. Thats just my opinion

Since the user's profiles and the ability to e-mail a user directly have been discontinued, please remove this option from the drop-down boxes under the user's name. Many fellow users have been questioning if there is a software "bug" being worked on, since we only get the "you do not have access" message when we attempt to contact a user or view their profile.

Please read below:

Was ther a reason for that change in policy?
I realize that some would prefer not to have their profiles veiwed publicly, fine, they do have that option.
However ther may be members who would like to stay in touch with others for info sharing on a private level.
Any members or staff care to add their views?

Les,
I agree with you. I do miss being able to view the profiles of my fellow IPIU members here in the forum.
It would be nice to have the option where if we wanted our profiles viewable to other members, it would be viewable; and for those who do not want their profile viewable, it would not be viewable.
IPIU, can this be looked into and possibly implemented?
Thanks for allowing us to submit our suggestions for your consideration.

Thank you Cheryl,
My previous life was making documents interactive so they could be filled out on line and emailed to the receiving party. Adobe Acrobat has an editor software that walks you right through how to make this happen.
The forms can be revised or changed when needed. You just need to make sure all the cells are made interactive (so they can hold data) everytime you change up the form.
I appreciate your comment.

Hi. My suggestion is to have a spell check built into the posting box instead of having to go to another webpage such as spellcheck.net and copy and paste your text to that site. It would cut down on steps and encourage all members to spell check their work. Thanks.

One way I got around not having spellcheck here is, I type my message in Outlook, spellcheck there and then cut & paste into the Forum. Works for me and makes it much easier on the reader!

This message is directed to the IPIU Marketing Dept. or anybody with a different perspective than mine,
I had my first interview w/ USIS last week, and I was MILDLY shocked with the HR Recruiter's question of "Are you able to work away from home one month at a time, for a minimum of 3 months in any one year?"
Please excuse my forwardness -- how up-to-date are we in terms of understanding the prospective employers' demanding schedules and workload?? My comment is this -- if we can understand their hiring requirements it would save time and energy on both sides with a realistic perspective whether we should apply to this company or not.
Looking ahead, I was wondering if IPIU has done any OUTREACH to insurance companies (for identity fraud) or financial companies (for credit card fraud) for us Newbies?? It's similar to a claims adjuster doing "property damage" reporting and fraud detection at Visa or MasterCard.
Any comment is appreciated and will be welcomed with an open mind and an open heart.

Along with the others, this suggestion has been added.

I was just wondering if I could make a suggestion here? I have read alot about the accessing of different levels but I was thinking about a better clarification for us newcomers. I was thinking in stead of getting the screen that we get when we don't have a high enough access that maybe you moderators or technical support could outline in the margin what is accessible for level 1,2,3,4 by putting the categories by levels. That way it would clear the way for anyone wanting to read more. That way also we wouldn't have to keep running into the you don't have access or permission screen. Just a thought. :)

On my wish list...
I would love to have an introduction link added to the drop-down box you get when clicking on a member's name. Using the "Find All Posts" is very helpful, but if the member has a lot of posts, it is hard to find their introduction.
I believe this would cut down on questions asked in other forums that should be asked in the member's intro. And it would definitely be easier to find an intro that is buried in pages and pages of other posts. :)

Brenda,
This is pretty easy to fine the introduction when doing the above task. It would be the last page really because that would be the 1st or 2nd post someone does when they first join the forum. ;) Hope this hint help.

That's what I had thought, but not necessarily. If they are someone else has posted to the introduction after they have done many other posts, it ends up on some page in between.

Grrr...I will be SO happy to get #1 on my wish list...the EDIT button. I meant to post another suggestion before hitting submit. And yes..."are" should have been "or". I thought I reread that before sending.
Anyway...#3 on my wish list...
When displaying with "Find All Posts", it pulls up only 500 of a member's most recent posts. I would love to have it pull up "all" posts by that member. Several times I've wanted to read a senior member's intro, but was unable to find it because it was lost in one of the 13 pages or not among the most recent 500.
Another point about my #2 wish (introduction link in the drop-down box)...
Because "Find All Posts" brings up only 13 pages of posts, if a person has posted more than 500 AND no posts have been made to their introduction topic during the time that they posted the last 500, it will not bring their introduction topic up.
Ok...I guess I've hit my limit of 3 Wishes. :) Thanks for the BEST forum on the internet!!! :D :D :D
Oh! And thanks for listening to the members so that we can help make the best even better! :D

Lisa, the best way to know what information can be given to the members, is just to remember what level forum you are writing your reply in. Only give level 4 replies in the level 4 forum. This way you will not run into any problems. I hope this will help. Good luck in all you do. ;)

Hi,
Following Brenda's cue, I am too late for a Christmas wish, but I think a modification would be easier on-the-eye, namely this page -- http://www.ipiu.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=324 -- by having the Executive Agency's name EMPHASIZED or in BIGGER BOLDER PRINT, or have the Employment Opportunities and Ongoing Investigations and Office of the President "indented" as sub-topics.

I'd suggest that (if possible) we get the website software enabled so that members can take advantage of the "Send a private message" function. I'm not sure what downside there might be, but if it were a matter of members' privacy there's always the option of turning it off in the user control panel. I can think of many instances in which that would be a great benefit. Just my 1.5-cents.

Greetings IPIU, I've seen many members joined IPIU with just a dream, but through lack of funds was unable to continue this wonderful journey.
And, I longed for a number #7 Membership Plan that, would help new members that cant pay all the membership fees all at once. Maybe one with a small downpayment and a contract that wont start until the full fee is payed, sort of like a layaway Plan.
Just a thought. hmmmmmm

With the approval of IPIU Senior Management in London and the United States, I would like to create a forum containing actual questionnaires and investigative tools that would assist the IPIU member investigator in assignments they may receive relative to insurance and fraud claims investigation.
An example of would be a Workers Compensation checklist of fraud indicators. Secondly, a questionnaire and tool most widely used among insurance adjusters and SIU insurance investigators is the Fraud Abuse Indicator Checklist and a list of guidelines for handling suspected fraud/abuse claims on property and casualty assignments.
Checklist
Workers Compensation Fraud Indicators
Note to adjuster and investigator: Any single indicator or group of indicators does not establish fraudulent activity. Their presence indicates the need for further investigation including running a CLUE report. Required am and pm activity checks/drive by's by SIU are suggested prior to assigning to SIU for surveillance.
1. Employee planning or in process of plant shutdown
2. Employer cutting back hours or laying off people
3. Employer terminated employee
4. Employer notified employee of poor performance, tardiness
5. Disgruntled injured worker, soon to retire
6. Injured worker is a seasonal worker
7. Injured worker took unexplained, or excessive time off prior to claimed injury.
8. Injured worker is a new employee
9. Injured worker experiencing financial difficulty
10. Injured worker shows history of reporting an injury that is "subjective in nature" meaning, a soft tissue injury. no visible sign.
11. Injured worker did not report the injury immediately
12. No witnesses to injury
13. The injury is reported first thing Monday morning or late Friday
14. Injury occurred in an area not approved for work, or does not usually work in.
15. Injured worker is never home when called by adjuster or investigator. Comments made by spouse or roommate indicates that worker is employed elsewhere, or the spouse or roommate always says, call back in one hour.
The 6 Key Indicators of Workers Compensation Fraud
Note: If you have two or more indicators present, submit to SIU immediately.
1. No witnesses
2. Claim history found in CLUE
3. Conflicting statement(s)
4. Medical TX and RX appointment no show
5. Release to work by treating. No restrictions. No followup
6. Attorney letter is submitted immediately. Lost time demand.

Greetings John, it's nice to see you as always. :) I love the suggestion concerning the opening of a forum dealing specifically in Insurance Claims Investigation vs. Insurance Fraud Claims Investigation
I don't think they'll have it in the public forums though, since it's going to have sensative infomation, did you look in the higher forums "Level 3, Level 4 etc." to see if one hasen't already been created.

Would it be possible to get an entire forum dedicated to Executive Protection. As this is an rapidly expanding field in the world of Private Investigations, I feel it may warrant some in depth discussion. First to guide those interested in pursuing this field, and second to dispel many of the myths surrounding it. Anyhow, just my two cents.

I do have a small idea to see if it may be possible to post/create.
I was thinking of a thread to support our IPIU troops whether active or reservist. I guess if they are potentially leaving for the weekend or a longer period of time we could have them place their posts in that thread and we be able to give them support.
Maybe we can allow this thread to be at a level 1 so our potential new members can view our entries and support. We can create the general thread and the individual main topics by branch of the military one branch for both active and reserve. This is just a thought please do let me know if it is good idea in order to be able and create.

I have a few Sugestions for the forum.
1. A classifid or wanted section where members at all levels can post either selling or looking for investigative resourses and books.
2. A forum for transgendered members. So they can share stores and suport each other.
3. A java based chat room so that we might meet others and chat online. This could even be used as a means of training or teaching others.
4. A select group of free ebooks open to the level one members.

Recently I found a book I read as a child that sparked my intrest in becoming a pi. It brought to mind after rereading it that it might be a good idea to start a group for younger investigators. This forum could be a level one access and include sections by ages such as 7-9, 10-12, 13-15, 16-18.
With topics that range from basic deduction skills to codes, and games ment to teach about what we do. It could also be used as a means to premote problem solving skills and ways to deal with bullys and crimes at an early age. Ways to teach them that they can help prevent crimes at any age.

After reading the sop. I think it would be wise to have a study group forum with sub forums based on each chapter of the sop. Then under each, people can post questions, discussions. This will and can help others digest the vast amount of information supplied. This would also allow the subject matter to be placed into a practical format that for some people increases their ability to understand the material. It would also allow the review of each chapter to be expanded vastly.

Main forum name Operations Manual Study Group
Sub Forum Chapter 1: Case Assignments
A different sub forum would be used for each chapter.
Thread one: Review questions.
More advanced review questions can be posted hear to be answered and discussed by members.
Thread two: chapter discussion.
This allows members to post discussion about the chapter.
Thread three: Member questions about chapter This is a place for members who are confused about the chapter materials and need assistance.
Thread four: practical exercises This is where worksheets and homework could be placed for an active participation in learning. Such as scenarios, reports writing from provided notes, and other ideas.
This is the setup I was thinking about. hope it helps.

I had an idea some time ago, and it was recommended that I post it here in the Suggestion Box.
Has anyone connected with IPIU ever thought of having "Guest/Honorary Members" for a day? We could contact famous (or infamous) ;)individuals' in our industry; fugitive recovery, investigators, and other agents as well, including police officers.
We could offer them a sort of "guest pass" for a week with a pseudonym, that would allow them (or an agent on their behalf,) to anonymously browse around the forums to check us out and see if this is something they would be interested in doing. They could perhaps do this on a volunteer basis, (or if IPIU were to charge an additional fee for their members - we could consider a donation to the guests' favorite charity.)
It would take quite a bit of work, but could prove to be quite interesting, certainly fun, and most importantly educational. ( :) I can see some press-release possibilities here.) :D
If the guest would perhaps agree to accept questions (questions submitted and chosen ahead of time, of course) - these questions could be answered by the Guest/Honorary Member and posted here in the forums. I would suggest these postings should only be accessible or viewable by a specific Level chosen by the administrative staff.
Perhaps these postings or "question and answer threads" should be considered to be viewable only by persons who have already chosen a membership or even using a special passcode - as we do in other specific areas of the forums.
Any thoughts or ideas from anyone else?
Imagine if we could do this once per month? How about as a summer, fall or winter "series"? I personally would be agreeable to paying an additional fee to IPIU to be included in these question and answer threads or to be allowed to read their posts.
I have some more ideas and suggestions for doing this as I'm sure others will when they take a moment to read this post. :)
Anybody?
Thoughts?

Like the following as an example :

I understand that some star badges may be illegal in some states no matter what they state, but it would be wonderful to have more options.
The ribbon background would be black with white text. The Badge number can go underneath the 2nd ribbon.

Heres some suggestions...
Certifications
There should be a very simple breakdown of every certification that you can get here. For example, if you purchase the "Finders Fee" book you can get a certificate of completion issued in Advanced Missing Persons Specialties. If you do a anti-piracy case you can get certified as a Anti-Piracy Specialist. Take this test and get certified in this....
Someone new like me wants every certificate I can get and as much knowledge as possible. Not only does it look great on a resume but also on my website
Logo
Every member should have access to be able to download the IPIU logo for there website, fax cover sheet, letterhead etc. It should be a free download. Without being a paid member they do not have access to download the file. If they leave the site then they must remove the logo. Simple. It is great ( GREAT ) publicity for IPIU.
Store
So Im a bit crazy, but there should be a IPIU store for coffee mugs, t-shirts, polo shirts, mouse pads etc. Without getting crazy and having to worry about merchant accts, shipping etc., set up a simple Cafe Press store. It would take me, or you, 15 minutes to set up and I can guarantee you with 1 hour you would have a sale. Not only could IPIU make a ton of money but if you set up an affiliate program then all IPIU members could also promote the store and make a small percentage. With 40,000 + members there is huge potential there ; )
Simplify
I have been doing internet marketing and building websites for over 10 years. One rule I have is to make every website "stupid-proof". You need to make it very very simple. The way it is set up now is very confusing and extremely overwhelming. Too much information in each post with too many links pointing all over.
Thats all I have for now ; )
I really like the suggestions
One I would like to add is a section for social bookmarking so we can all bookmark each others web sites. Like in Digg and Mixx etc. Also a place for link exchanges. SEO stuff.

OK now that Im on a roll...
Downloads
There should be one forum called "Downloads" which has all the ebooks, test, manuals etc all in one place with a brief description of what it is.
Chat Room
There should be a live chat room added to the site. It will increase member activity as well as relieve some burden of having admins have to answer emails. There are planty of free chat room that can be added to this site and there should be a direct link on the main member page after logging in that all members have access to.
Member Photos
Again to create more user activity then what there is, there should be a forum for users to add their pic if they want so other members can talk on a more personal level

As a matter of history, IPIU has had no interest in promoting itself to the public as a web site. That is not to say this policy will remain in the "dark ages". It is my belief that changes are on the way to come. I have seen the "discussions" among the board members. The business of IPIU, since 1989, has been that of a non-labor union of private investigators whose primary resource for membership was based on a referral basis. In February of 2000, some of our benefits were made available to members on the Internet instead of through the postal mail and telephones. But our business is not an internet business. That said, I believe we are close to making some of the changes you mention, but there are some back-end projects that must be fulfilled before we implement those types of changes. Alexa also gives a snap-shot of how many visitors we get, all with basically no overt advertising or promotion. We have been one of the best kept trade secrets in the world for 20 years. Those who find us, those who were referred to us, have a common view that they have been looking for an organization like IPIU for a very long time.
Again, thank you for your observation and your offer.
Cheers,
Greetings Admin and members, nice to see you all here enjoying the IPIU forum. I am greatfull for all the tips and guidance from you all.
I personally think that this last post by Admin should be added to the "{COE}" somewhere and new and seasoned members should be asked to read/re-read its contents as it answer some of the questions concerning this site.

Was wondering - create a Directory called By States, then within that Directory have folders listed by state names. A way of communicating with other PI's within their state.
