Jan,

I assume that you read the Entire thread to learn that the story is a Fake?

It's not all that suprizing because any innovation which is considered new as when hotel keys were replaced with these swipe cards, with the information stated about the personal data on the guest, and who has access to them well what do you expect. However, that is a good idea as to just destroy the card or not give it back. The world is full of trick and scheme. Let's just remember that.

I suppose 9 pages of threads is a lot to read.

Wow! thanks for the information on this subject. I had no idea that a hotel card would store that type of information. There are so many people out there that doesn't know this either. How scary  I know now that I will be taking the card with me and destroying it ASAP. I will be telling everyone that I know. Thanks

Christina,

It does not. The story is false. The prosecutor who pushed this was doing this for political gain.

The key card system only opens the hotel room door (most of the time). It is separate and distinct from the credit card or reservation systems. You have nothing to fear. There is no commercial value in a hotel linking the systems - it costs money to do so and does not provide any benefit to anyone. Hence, it does not happen.

In your defense, those of us who have been here in the IPIU forums for several years had fewer posts in each thread to read before making our own posts. However, this does not absolve you of your responsibility to read all the posts in a thread before responding.

Keep in mind that potential employers may be lurking in these forums and will see that some people do not do enough reading or research before making a decision or jumping to a conclusion.

We are all nice people in here, but we have an obligation to help each other. Please read more carefully.

Charles,

If you mean either taking the key card or destroying it, that is theft. I know that most hotels are not concerned about losing a few, but to do it intentionally is wrong.

The fact that no hotel is concerned about losing key cards should tell you that they have no legal liability concerns. If the hotel is not concerned about the liability, then the key cards must be worth nothing after checkout.
